A Ilha Dos Escravos
''A Ilha dos Escravos'' (''The Island of Slaves'' or ''The Isle of Slaves'') is a 2008 Cape Verdean, Brazilian, Portuguese and Spanish drama film directed by Portuguese director Francisco Manso. It was based on a novel named "O Escravo" ("The Slave") written in 1856 by José Evaristo de Almeida, a Portuguese who was exiled in Cape Verde. Plot The film takes place during the 19th century during a revolt by Miguelists who were exiled in Cape Verde, and centres on a love triangle between Maria (Vanessa Giácomo), João (Ângelo Torres) and Albano Lopes ( Diogo Infante). Maria is the daughter of a farmer, João is a slave and Albano Lopes is a Miguelist official. A troop survey of the city of Praia, instigated by officers banished in the archipelago, as a result of a defeat of the partisans by Infante D. Fernando Vendrell
Fernando Vendrell (Lisbon, 1962) is a Portuguese film director and producer. Biography Born and raised in Lisbon, where he graduated from high school in 1980 (Science). In 1981, while studying photography he worked as Film still photographer in Manoel de Oliveira documentary Lisboa Cultural. From 1982 to 1985, he studied film editing at the Portuguese National Conservatory Conservatório Nacional, nowadays the Lisbon Theatre and Film School There he had the chance to learn with filmmakers as António Reis, Alberto Seixas Santos and Paulo Rocha. The history of the cinema of Cape Verde dates back to the arrival of filmmakers in the early twentieth century. The first picture house was established in Mindelo around 1922, called Eden Park. The nation has two film festivals, the Cabo Verde International Film Festival (CVIFF), which takes place each year on the island of Sal with its first edition held in 2010. The Praia International Film Festival Cinema do Plateau on the island of Santiago with its first edition took place in 2014.
