A Gift (film)
''A Gift'', known in Thai as ''Pohn Jak Fah'' ( th, พรจากฟ้า, , meaning "blessings from the sky"), is a 2016 Thai film released by GDH 559. An anthology in three segments, the film explores the theme of music as gifts and pays tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's musical compositions. Each of the film's segments is based on one of the King's compositions. The first segment, based on the song "Love at Sundown", is a romantic comedy directed by Chayanop Boonprakob and Kriangkrai Vachiratamporn. It stars Naphat Siangsomboon and Violette Wautier. The second, "Still on My Mind", is a family drama directed by Nithiwat Tharathorn, and stars Nittha Jirayungyurn and Sunny Suwanmethanont. The final segment, "New Year Greeting" is a comedy by Jira Maligool (who also co-produced the film), starring Chantavit Dhanasevi and Neungthida Sophon. Jira Maligool ( th, จิระ มะลิกุล; ; born 1961) is a Thai film director, screenwriter and producer. He has directed three films, ''Mekhong Full Moon Party'', ''The Tin Mine'' and ''Seven Something'' (part 42.195), and was the screenwriter behind the international hit, ''The Iron Ladies''. Biography Early career Born in Thailand in 1961, Jira graduated in 1983 from Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Communication Arts, where he majored in film and photography. While still a student, he worked as a music video and movie commercial director. In 1991, he co-founded his own film studio, Hub Ho Hin Bangkok (later working through the subsidiary Hub Ho Hin Films). Boon Rawd Brewery ( th, บริษัท บุญรอดบริวเวอรี่ จำกัด) is a well-known Thai brewery founded in 1933 by Phraya Bhirom Bhakdi (Boonrawd Sreshthaputra). It also produces soft drinks and bottled drinking water. Their best-known product is the pale lager Singha. History Boon Rawd Brewery was the first to open in Thailand and produces its beer under the brand name of Singha. It was founded in the early 1930s by Boonrawd Sreshthaputra, who had received the title of Phraya Bhirom Bhakdi from HM King Prajadhipok. Compositions By Bhumibol Adulyadej
Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927-2016), the late King of Thailand, had written more than 49 songs. His music is known in Thai as "Phleng Phra Ratcha Niphon" ( th, เพลงพระราชนิพนธ์; lit. "Royal Composition"). He was influenced by jazz, but also wrote music in other genre such as waltz, march, and classical music. In 1952, King Bhumibol Adulyadej composed the "Royal Marines March" ( th, มาร์ชราชนาวิกโยธิน), the official march of the Royal Thai Marine Corps. It was the 30th composition by the king. It was first performed on 7 June 1959, during the visit of the American 7th Fleet to Thailand. The late king also authored English lyrics to five of his songs – "Echo", "Still on My Mind", "Old-Fashioned Melody", "No Moon" and "Dream Island". GDH 559 Co., Ltd. ( th, บริษัท จีดีเอช ห้าห้าเก้า จำกัด), usually known as GDH, is a film studio subsidiary to the Thai entertainment conglomerate GMM Grammy. It was founded on 5 January 2016 as a successor to GMM Tai Hub (GTH) — Thailand's most successful film studio of the prior 11 years — which had been dissolved in 31 December 2015 due to internal conflicts between the company's three major shareholders — GMM Grammy, and Hub Ho Hin.
