A Fight To The Finish (1925 Film)
''A Fight to the Finish'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by B. Reeves Eason and starring William Fairbanks, Phyllis Haver and Tom Ricketts. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Jim Davis, a young man whose father has turned him out without a cent, is involved in a street fight and whips a man whom he learns is the state boxing champion in his division. Mary Corbett urges Jim to meet the champion in the ring and thereby win enough money to convince his father he can earn his own living. The ring fight is staged, but Jim loses because he has been drugged. In the dressing room after the fight, he thoroughly trounces the champion. Later he wins the affection of the young woman. Dorothy Howell (screenwriter)
Dorothy Howell (May 10, 1899 – June 8, 1971), was an American screenwriter active mostly during the 1920s and 1930s. Born to Elmer Howell and Carrie Lorenz, Dorothy was raised in Illinois alongside her younger brother Raymond. Raymond would go on to work at Hollywood studios as a technician, according to census records. Howell worked as a scenarist and screenwriter for Columbia for much of her career. She started out at Columbia as Harry Cohn's secretary and was appointed assistant general production manager at the company in 1926. Before joining Columbia, she had also worked as a secretary to executives Irving Thalberg and B.P. Schulberg. She was married to Mendel B. Silverberg, a prominent entertainment lawyer (who had previously been married to Alice Calhoun). William Fairbanks (born Carl Ullman; May 24, 1894 – April 1, 1945) was an American actor. He appeared in over 65 silent era films between 1916 and 1928. Biography Fairbanks was born Carl Ullman in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Charles and Emma E. Ullman. His father was born in Bavaria, Germany, emigrated to the U.S. and became a naturalized citizen, and his mother was born in Illinois. His father was a dry goods merchant and his mother a saleslady at their store. At age 16, Carl worked as a clerk in a stationery store in St. Louis. He attended the St. Louis Military Academy. His first film role was as Capt. Pierre Thierry in the war drama ''Somewhere in France'' (1916) starring Louise Glaum and Howard C. Hickman.
