''A Day of Roses in August'' (german: Ein Tag der Rosen im August) is a 1927 German silent film directed by Max Mack and starring Eduard von Winterstein, Margarete Schön, and Ernst Rückert. It was shot at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Kurt Richter. Max Mack
Max Mack (1884–1973) was a German screenwriter, film producer and director during the silent era. He is particularly known for his 1913 film ''The Other''. He directed, and co-starred in, an early film adaptation of ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' in 1914, called ''Ein Seltsamer Fall'', written by Richard Oswald. During the 1910s, he directed nearly a hundred films in a variety of different genres.Elsaesser & Wedel p.205 Born as Moritz Myrthenzweig in Halberstadt, the Jewish Mack was later forced to emigrate to escape Nazism, and settled in the United Kingdom. Kurt Gerron
Kurt Gerron (11 May 1897 – 28 October 1944) was a German History of the Jews in Germany, Jewish actor and film director. He and his wife, Olga were murdered in the Holocaust. Life Born Kurt Gerson into a well-off merchant family in Berlin, he studied medicine before being called up for military service in World War I. After being seriously wounded, he was qualified as a military doctor in the German Army (German Empire), German Army, despite having been only in his second year at university. After the war Gerron turned to a stage career, becoming a theatre actor under director Max Reinhardt in 1920. He appeared in secondary roles in several silent films and began directing film shorts in 1926.
