A Dark Lantern
''A Dark Lantern'' is a lost 1920 American silent drama film produced and released by Realart Pictures. It is based on a 1905 novel of the same name by Elizabeth Robins. John S. Robertson directed and Alice Brady and her then husband James Crane star. According to the AFI Catalog, the film was shot at the Essanay studios in Chicago as that was where Alice Brady was appearing in a play at the time. Plot As described in a film magazine, mistaking the intentions of Prince Anton (Denny) of Argovinia in seeking her hand, young English woman Katherine Dereham (Brady) suffers a great shock when his attentions culminate in a proposal that she be his morganatic wife, his country requiring an alliance with a royal princess. This, together with the blow of her father's death, shatters Katherine's nerves and causes a breakdown. She recovers under the rigid administrations of Dr. Garth Vincent (Crane). Reginald Leigh Dugmore (20 November 189116 June 1967), known professionally as Reginald Denny, was an English actor, aviator, and UAV pioneer. Acting career Born Reginald Leigh Dugmore on 20 November 1891 in Richmond, Surrey, England (part of Greater London since 1965), he came from a theatrical family; his father was actor and opera singer W.H. Denny. In 1899, he began his stage career in ''A Royal Family'' and starred in several London productions from age seven to twelve. He attended St. Francis Xavier College in Mayfield, Sussex, but, at 16, he ran away from school to train as a pugilist with Sir Harry Preston at the National Sporting Club. Marie Burke
Marie Burke (born Marie Rosa Altfuldisch, later Holt, 18 October 189421 March 1988) was an English actress of stage, cinema and television. She appeared in over 40 films between 1917 and 1971, and appeared in TV series between 1953 and 1969. Biography Burke was born in London in 1894 to Rosa (née Underwood) and Ferdinand Altfuldisch (sometimes transcribed as Altfieldisch). The family changed their name to Holt during World War I. Career Marie Burke was a British character comedian and trained as an operatic singer in Italy. She appeared in films in 1917, before making her stage debut in 1919. As a member of the Katja Company she was touring Australia in 1926 when she and her colleague, the tenor Warde Morgan, were seriously injured in the Aberdeen Rail Disaster.
