''A City's Child'' is a 1972 Australian film directed by Brian Kavanagh. Plot A spinster whose invalid mother dies starts drifting into a fantasy world. She starts collecting Barbie dolls and meets a young man who may or may not be real. The two of them become lovers. Brian Kavanagh (filmmaker)
Brian Kavanagh (born 1935) is an Australian author, editor, writer, producer, and director of films and documentaries. As a film editor, he is known for his collaborative works with Fred Schepisi and Murray Fahey. In 1986, he was honored with the Australia Film Institute Award for Best Achievement in Editing, for his work on '' Frog Dreaming''. Don Battye
Donald Gordon Battye (29 September 1938 – 28 February 2016) was an Australian composer, writer and television producer, best known for his work with Crawford Productions and Reg Grundy Organisation (known then as Reg Grundy Productions). Monica Cresswell Maughan (née Wood, 15 September 1933 – 8 January 2010) was an Australian actor with roles in theatre, radio, television, film and ballet over a career spanning 52 years. Early life and education She was born Monica Cresswell Wood in Tonga to Australian missionaries Rev. Dr A. Harold Wood and medical doctor Olive Wood (née O'Reilly). She had 5 brothers and sisters, including Dr Elizabeth Wood-Ellem and Rev. Dr H. D'Arcy Wood. Sean Scully (born 28 September 1947) is an Australian actor, active in film and television, most especially serials. Early life The son of actress and radio host Margaret Christensen, Scully was born in Sydney, New South Wales. Career Scully began his acting career at the age of 12 in the 1960 Children's Film Foundation film ''Hunted in Holland'', which won the Diploma of Honour at the Cannes Film Festival. Following that, he was signed by Walt Disney and starred in a number of Technicolor family feature films for the studio, including ''The Prince and the Pauper'' (filmed 1961, released 1962), in which he played both title characters, alongside Guy Williams as Miles Hendon, and also played opposite Patrick McGoohan in '' Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow'' (1963). Peter Norman Pinne (born 27 May 1937) is an Australian-born former television executive, writer and composer who has worked frequently in America and Great Britain. Career Pinne started working for the television production company, the Reg Grundy Organisation, as a television executive. Firstly, as Head of Production from 1980, later rising to become a Senior Vice President of the company. During this period, he worked on numerous serials including ''The Young Doctors'', ''The Restless Years'' and ''Neighbours''. He co-composed the theme tune to ''Sons and Daughters''. In 1992, he was responsible for overseeing the production of ''Dangerous Women'', an American series based loosely on the popular ''Prisoner''. Jean Vivra Gray (20 July 1924 – 29 July 2016), known professionally as Vivean Gray, also credited as ''Vivian Gray'' and ''Viven Gray'', was an English television and film actress. Film Quota Act
The Film Quota Act, full title the New South Wales Cinematograph Films (Australian Quota) Act was an act of legislation passed in September 1935 that came into force on 1 January 1936. Under the Act it was compulsory that in the first year of operation 5 per cent, of the films distributed in New South Wales must be Australian productions, the percentage to increase yearly for five years when it becomes 15 per cent. The Act was introduced at the behest of New South Wales' Premier Bertram Stevens. Its ultimate impact turned out to be limited due to a loophole in the legislation. The use of the word "acquire" meant it was considered that the act was drafted to reflect exhibition of films, not ensure production; distributors argued they had no obligation to produce movies.
