The AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role is an award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organisation whose aim is to "identify, award, promote, and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television". The award is presented annually at the AACTA Awards, which hands out accolades for achievements in feature films, television, Documentary film, documentaries, and short films. From 1971 to 2010, the category was presented by the Australian Film Institute (AFI), the Academy's parent organisation, at the annual Australian Film Institute Awards (known as the AFI Awards). When the AFI launched the AACTA in 2011, it changed the annual ceremony to the AACTA Awards, with the current award being a continuum of the AFI Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Judy Davis
Judith Davis (born 23 April 1955) is an Australian actress in film, television, and on stage. ''A City's Child'' is a 1972 Australian film directed by Brian Kavanagh. Plot A spinster whose invalid mother dies starts drifting into a fantasy world. Judith Ann Morris (born 17 February 1947) is an Australian character actress, as well as a film director and screenwriter, well known for the variety of roles she played in 58 different television shows and films, starting her career as a child actress and appearing on screen until 1999, since then she has worked on film writing and directing, most recently for co-writing and co-directing a musical epic about the life of penguins in Antarctica which became ''Happy Feet'', Australia's largest animated film project to date.
