A Brief Vacation
''A Brief Vacation'' ( it, Una breve vacanza) is a 1973 melodrama film directed by Vittorio De Sica. The screenplay, written by Cesare Zavattini, was inspired by an Apollinaire adage ("Sickness is the vacation of the poor"). Synopsis The film concerns a female factory worker from Calabria who falls ill on the job and is prescribed a stay at a mountain retreat. She goes despite her husband's wishes, leaving behind her thankless work shift and her frustrating in-laws, but also her three children. The film addresses issues such as the health care system, labor conditions, spousal satisfaction, and class struggle. Vittorio De Sica
Vittorio De Sica ( , ; 7 July 1901 – 13 November 1974) was an Italian film director and actor, a leading figure in the neorealist movement. Four of the films he directed won Academy Awards: ''Sciuscià'' and ''Bicycle Thieves'' (honorary), while ''Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow'' and '' Il giardino dei Finzi Contini'' won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Indeed, the great critical success of ''Sciuscià'' (the first foreign film to be so recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) and ''Bicycle Thieves'' helped establish the permanent Best Foreign Film Award. These two films are considered part of the canon of classic cinema. Teresa Gimpera
Teresa Gimpera Flaquer (born 21 September 1936) is a Spanish film and television actress and former model of the 60s and 70s. Biography Teresa Gimpera Flaquer was born in Igualada, province of Barcelona, on 21 September 1936. Her parents were both teachers, and grew up in the Sant Andreu neighbourhood of Barcelona. Her first job was with Leopoldo Pomes as an advertisement model. She later made her film debut in '' Fata Morgana'' (1965). She went on to star in numerous films throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She married Octavio Sarsanedas, who worked in advertising at the Seix Barral publishing house. They had three children, Marc, Job, and Joan. In 1990 she married U.S. actor Craig Hill; he had moved to Barcelona, Spain where he had found work in Spaghetti Westerns. They were married for 24 years until Hill's death in April 2014. Christian De Sica
Christian De Sica (; born 5 January 1951) is an Italian actor and film director. Life De Sica was born in Rome the second son of Italian director Vittorio De Sica and Spanish actress María Mercader. His first cousin once removed was Ramón Mercader, the murderer of Leon Trotsky. After attending Liceo classico in Rome, where he had Carlo Verdone as his deskmate, De Sica worked in a hotel in Venezuela, where he began his career as an artist. He enrolled in Lettere (Literature and Arts) at La Sapienza university (1970) but did not graduate. He was attracted to music, and participated in the Sanremo Festival singing "Mondo mio" ("My World") (1973). However, the results convinced him to follow in his father's footsteps and devote himself to acting.
