A Beautiful New World
''A Beautiful New World'' is a 1999 Chinese comedy film directed by Shi Runjiu. The film, Shi's first (he had previously served as an assistant director for Lu Yue's ''Mr. Zhao''), was co-produced by Xi'an Film Studio and the independent Imar Film Company. It was Imar Film's second production, after 1997's '' Spicy Love Soup''. Set in Shanghai, the film stars Jiang Wu and Tao Hong as a mismatched pair. Taiwanese pop stars Richie Jen and Wu Bai are cast in minor roles. Shi Runjiu
Shi Runjiu () (born 1969), is a Beijing-based Chinese filmmaker. After graduating from the directing department of the Beijing Central Drama Academy in 1992, he went on to direct many documentaries and music videos for MTV. He served as assistant director to Zhang Yimou and Lü Yue on their films '' To Live'' and ''Mr. Zhao'', respectively. His first feature was ''A Beautiful New World'' (''Meili Xin Shijie'', 1998), a romantic comedy about a peasant who wins an apartment in Shanghai in a lottery. Wu Chun-lin (; born 14 January 1968), better known by his stage name Wu Bai (), is a Taiwanese rock singer, songwriter and actor. The Hawai'i International Film Festival (HIFF) is an annual film festival held in the United States state of Hawaii. HIFF has a focus on Asian-Pacific cinema, education, and the work of new and emerging filmmakers. Niu Ben
Zhang Xuejing (张学景, Tianjin, 1935-), stagename Niu Ben (牛犇) is a Chinese film actor. Biography He lost both of his parents at the age of six, then lived with his oldest brother, who worked as a driver at the third film factory in Beijing. In 1946, 11-year-old Ben was chosen to act as a village boy "little ox" and became a child star. His stage name Niu Ben is composed of Niu the Chinese character of "牛" (ox, a common surname) and Ben " 犇" (three oxen together, a less common personal name). He later played child roles in old Chinese films, and went to Hongkong. After the foundation of People's Republic of China, he returned to mainland China and became an actor of the Shanghai Film Studio, and one of the members of the 5th China Film Association. Cheng Lei (; born on August 26, 1971) is a Chinese television presenter. Cheng Lei was a student in Shanghai Theater Academy in 1990s. After graduation, he was chosen as a host for ''Broken Brain'' (智力大沖浪) by Shanghainese producer Xiao Chen. He also worked on several interviews. Cheng's family has a long history of liver disease.
