ASP Waterpolis Pescara
Associazione Sportiva Waterpolis Pescara was an Italian water polo club based in Pescara, Abruzzo. History As any top Italian water polo club, Pescara has written in golden letters her own great stories both in the domestic and even more in the competitive European competitions. Crowning achievement of the club so far consists the winning of 1988 LEN Champions League over against the mighty West German team of the 80's, Spandau 04, closely followed by the multiple wins of Italian Cups and LEN Cup Winners' Cups in the second period of its golden age in the middle '90s. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. LEN Super Cup
The LEN Super Cup is an annual water polo match organized by LEN and contested by the reigning champions of the two European club competitions, the LEN Champions League and the LEN Euro Cup. From 1976 to 2002, the LEN Super Cup was contested between the winners of the European Champions Cup/LEN Champions League and the winners of the LEN Cup Winners' Cup. Coppa Italia (men's Water Polo)
The men's Coppa Italia is the water polo domestic Cup of Italy. The trophy is organized by FIN and reserved to Serie A1 teams. The first edition took place in 1970 and the most successful club is Pro Recco, winner of the competition for 16 times. History and format The first edition of the trophy was held in 1970 and was won by Canottieri Napoli. Later, Coppa Italia was held discontinuously except for a nine-years streak of back-to-back seasons between 1984–85 and 1992–93. The trophy was resumed regularly starting from 2004–05 season. The ''scudetto'' (Italian language, Italian for: "little shield") is a decoration having the colors of the flag of Italy which is sewn onto the jersey of the Italian sports clubs that won the highest level championship of their respective sport in the previous season. Pescara (; nap, label= Abruzzese, Pescàrë; nap, label= Pescarese, Piscàrë) is the capital city of the Province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Rari Nantes Savona is an aquatic sports club based in Savona, Italy, mainly known for its men's water polo team, which competes uninterruptedly in the Serie A1, the top division of Italian championship, since 1982; the team has been national champion for three times.
