ASEAN Championship
The ASEAN Championship (formerly a.k.a. ASEAN Football Federation Championship; less formally known as the AFF Championship), currently a.k.a. ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the primary association football, football tournament organized by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) for men's football national teams in the Southeast Asia. A biennial international competition, it is contested by the List of men's national association football teams, men's national teams of the AFF to determine the sub-continental champion of Southeast Asia. The competition has been held every two years since 1996 AFF Championship, 1996, scheduled to be in the even-numbered year, except for 2007 AFF Championship, 2007, and 2020 AFF Championship, 2020 (which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Southeast Asia, COVID-19 pandemic). Asean Football Federation
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) is an organisation within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and is an international governing body of association football in Southeast Asia. It consists of the federations of Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Despite using "ASEAN" in its name, the AFF is not affiliated with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. History AFF was founded on 31 January 1984 by the meeting in Jakarta of 6 founding member are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand. The idea of founding the federation came from the initial meeting of founding the sub-continental football association in Bangkok in 1982 that was attended by Hamzah Abu Samah, Peter Velappan, Hans Pandelaki, Fernando G.
