__NOTOC__ ARA ''Cabo San Antonio'' (Q-42) was a tank landing ship in the Argentine Navy, built in Argentina at Río Santiago Shipyard, AFNE, Río Santiago shipyard. She was launched on 20 July 1968. ''Cabo San Antonio'' was based on the US Navy's USS De Soto County (LST-1171), ''De Soto County''-class tank landing ship design. History The high point of her career was the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) in 1982, as part of 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands, Operation Azul. ''Cabo San Antonio'' disembarked with 20 Amphibious Assault Vehicle, LVTP-7 tracked amphibious vehicle, amphibious armoured personnel carriers and LARC-V transports from the 1st Amphibious Vehicles Battalion, carrying D and E Companies of the 2nd Marine Infantry Battalion at Yorke Bay. Río Santiago Shipyard
The Rio Santiago Shipyard is a shipyard located in the city of Ensenada, Buenos Aires Province at the shores of the Santiago River. Currently owned by the Government of Buenos Aires Province, it has been one of the major active and important shipyards in Latin America. Founded in 1953, it has realized diverse functions in the naval, industrial and railroad sectors. In its golden age the shipyard reached 8,000 workers on double shift. In 2008 relies on 2,700 workers. The most famous work was the construction, in 1962, of the Fragata Libertad. Yorke Bay
Yorke Bay is a bay on East Falkland in the Falkland Islands. It is located half a mile north of Port Stanley Airport, four miles to the northeast of the capital city of Stanley, on a peninsula connected to the mainland by the Boxer Bridge and a narrow isthmus known as "The Neck". Gypsy Cove is a smaller bay located on the west side of Yorke Bay. Most cruise ships pass Yorke Bay and Gypsy Cove on the way to dock in Stanley Harbour. LARC-V (Lighter, Amphibious Resupply, Cargo, 5 ton), is an aluminium-hulled amphibious cargo vehicle capable of transporting 5 tons. It was developed in the United States during the 1950s, and is used in a variety of auxiliary roles to this day. In addition to the United States, LARC-Vs have been used by military forces in Australia, Argentina, Portugal, the Philippines, Singapore and Iceland. Approximately 968 were made. About 500 were destroyed, most by scuttling during the American withdrawal from South Vietnam. About 200 have been retained in U.S. military service. Roughly 100 are privately owned and mostly used for tourism. USS ''De Soto County'' (LST-1171) was a built for the United States Navy during the late 1950s. The lead ship of her class of seven, she was named after counties in Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi, the only U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name.
