The stores feature chef-prepared entrees, an extensive wine collection with trained cellar staff, and specialty baked goods. ''The Arizona Republic'' is an American daily newspaper published in Phoenix. Circulated throughout Arizona, it is the state's largest newspaper. Since 2000, it has been owned by the Gannett newspaper chain. Copies are sold at $2 daily or at $3 on Sundays and $5 on Thanksgiving Day; prices are higher outside Arizona. History Early years The newspaper was founded May 19, 1890, under the name ''The Arizona Republican''. Dwight B. Bashas' is a family-owned grocery store chain, primarily located in Arizona, with two locations outside the state in Crownpoint, New Mexico, and Shiprock, New Mexico. Its headquarters are in unincorporated Maricopa County, Arizona, near Chandler. As of December 15, 2021, Bashas' is owned by Raley's Supermarkets. Overview The Bashas' family of stores includes four distinct formats: Bashas', Bashas' Diné, AJ's Fine Foods, and Food City. The company has more than 130 stores serving every county in Arizona and Crownpoint, New Mexico. The company had a location in Needles, California, which closed in May 2014.
