The AIR Awards of 2014 (or Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards of 2014) is the ninth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards (generally known as the AIR Awards) and was an award ceremony at The Meat Market, North Melbourne on 8 October 2014. North Melbourne
North Melbourne is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Melbourne local government area. North Melbourne recorded a population of 14,953 at the 2021 census. North Melbourne is bounded by the CityLink freeway to the west, Victoria Street to the south, O'Connell and Peel Streets to the east and Flemington Road to the north. ''Hungry Ghost'' is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Violent Soho. It was released on I Oh You Records in September 2013. Title According to the band's frontman Luke Beardham, the title of the album and the song of the same name, originally referring to Chinese Buddhism, was taken from the book ''Culture Jam'' by Canadian civil activist Kalle Lasna and allegorically implies a person who, in an effort to fulfill his desire, loses himself. Boredam has also said Hungry Ghost "dealt with the spiritual skeleton we've become from this spoon-fed reality." ''Blackbird'' is the third studio album by Australian musician Dan Sultan, released in April 2014. The album was his first in five years and was the culmination of many months of writing and recording. ''Blackbird'' peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts and was certified gold. Prior to recording the album, Sultan said he hadn't been motivated or inspired to write. Daniel Leo Sultan (born 1983) is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, actor and author. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2010 he won ARIA Award for Best Male Artist, Best Male Artist and ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album, Best Blues & Roots Album for his second album, ''Get Out While You Can'' (November 2009). "Covered in Chrome" is a song by Australian rock band Violent Soho, released as the second single from their third studio album, ''Hungry Ghost'' (2013). Music video A video for the song "Covered in Chrome", filmed in Henery's house, was released on 16 October 2013 and concludes with a person setting fire to items on a clothesline in the backyard. In response to a question about concerns regarding the potential for damage to Henery's residence, caused by the music video concept, Boerdam stated: "... it was his eneryproblem … It’s a rental, so we just said 'Do you have a lease? Yeah, cool, let’s do it'". Ideas and imagery in the lyrics for the song were informed by a Wikipedia article about the Hungarian uprising in 1956 which Boerdam had been reading. "Geronimo" is the second single released, in February 2014, by Australian indie pop band Sheppard. It was written by three of its members, Jason Bovino with the siblings, George and Amy Sheppard, and was produced by Stuart Stuart at Analog Heart Studios, Brisbane. It is the first number-one single ever recorded in Brisbane and reached number one on the Australian Singles Chart in April 2014. Having held the position for three weeks, the song became the longest stay at the top of the charts for an Australian artist or band since "Battle Scars" by Guy Sebastian in August 2012. ''DMA's'' is the debut extended play by Australian indie rock band, DMA's released on 28 March 2014. At the AIR Awards of 2014, the EP was nominated for Best Independent Single/EP. The EP was released in North America on 18 May 2015 via Mom + Pop Music. Background and release On 17 February 2014, I OH YOU announced they had signed DMA's and would release their self-titled debut EP on 28 March 2014, based solely on demo's received. The debut single "Delete" was released the same day. In an interview with Hannah Galvin from ''Purple Sneakers'' in March 2014, Matthew Mason said "Some of the songs on it we've had for years. Total Control (band)
Total Control is an Australian post-punk band that formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2008. The band's line-up includes Mikey Young (guitar, keyboards), Dan Stewart (vocals), Al Montfort (guitar), Zephyr Pavey (bass), and James Vinciguerra (drums). After a series of singles, the band's debut album, '' Henge Beat'', was released in August 2011. Their second album, ''Typical System'', was released in June 2014. History Total Control was formed in 2008 by Eddy Current Suppression Ring band member Mikey Young and UV Race's Dan Stewart.
