AIR Awards Of 2009
The AIR Awards of 2009 is the fourth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards (generally known as the AIR Awards and Jagermeister AIR Awards) and was an award ceremony at The Forum Theatre, in Melbourne, Australia on 23 November 2009 to recognise outstanding achievements of local artists who release their work through an Australian-owned independent record label and distribute their work through a locally-owned distribution firm. The event was again sponsored by German liquor brand, Jägermeister and was filmed for a one-hour special on Australian pay-TV music broadcaster Channel V. The event was hosted by The Chaser's Julian Morrow. Forum Theatre
Forum theatre is a type of theatre created by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal. It is one of the techniques under the umbrella term of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). This relates to the engagement of spectators influencing and engaging with the performance as both spectators and actors, termed "spect-actors", with the power to stop and change the performance. As part of TO, the issues dealt with in forum theatre are often related to areas of social justice, with the aim of exploring solutions to oppression featured in the performance. History In the 1960s, Augusto Boal and his theatre company the Teatro de Arena de São Paulo travelled through some of the poorest places in Brazil, staging productions which urged action against various injustices and oppressors. Bertie Blackman
Beatrice "Bertie" Blackman (born 1982) is an Independent Australian singer, songwriter and guitarist. She rose to fame in 2004 with her debut album ''Headway,'' which came after years of prolific performances around Sydney's inner-city venues, where she developed a dedicated following. Early life and influences Bertie is the daughter of late, renowned Australian artist Charles Blackman, and grew up in the eastern Sydney suburbs of Bondi and Paddington. Ash Grunwald
Ash Grunwald (born Ashley Mark Groenewald, 5 September 1976) is an Australian blues musician. He has released nine studio albums and has received five nominations for ARIA Music Awards. Oh Mercy (band)
Oh Mercy were an Australian indie rock band formed by Alexander Gow. The band released five studio albums, '' Privileged Woes'' (2009), '' Great Barrier Grief'' (2011), '' Deep Heat'' (2012), '' When We Talk About Love'' (2015) and ''Café Oblivion'' (2018). At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 they won Best Adult Contemporary Album for ''When We Talk About Love''. John Steel Singers
The John Steel Singers were an Australian six-piece band from Brisbane, Queensland, named after a toy horse that band member Tim Morrissey named John Steel. They were formed in 2007 when Morrissey and Scott Bromiley decided to start making music together and were soon joined by Ross Chandler, Pete Bernoth, Pat McDermott and Luke McDonald (formerly of Sunk Loto) . The band released an EP and a mini album independently before signing with Levi's Jeans' record label Levity and releasing another EP, ''In Colour''. The band has had multiple tracks on rotation on Triple J, won a Triple J Unearthed competition and became the Unearthed Artist of the Year in 2008. Buttons (Sia Song)
"Buttons" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Sia. "Buttons" was released as a promotion single in 2007 and as the fourth and final official single from her 2008 album, ''Some People Have Real Problems''. The song is a bonus track on the Australian edition and a hidden track (following "Lullaby") on the international edition of the album. Re-mixes were released in the US on 25 November 2008 and a 1-track digital single in New Zealand on 9 February 2009 through Spinnin Records. Philadelphia Grand Jury (The Philly Jays) are an Australian trio from Sydney. The band's current line-up consists of Joel "MC Bad Genius" Beeson on bass, keyboard and guitar, Simon "Berkfinger" Berckelman on vocals and guitar and Dan "Dan W. Sweat" Williams on drums. Decoder Ring is an experimental electronic-rock crossover group from Australia. History Decoder Ring was formed in 2001, in Sydney, Australia. The original line-up consisted of Tom Schutzinger (Keyboards, drums), Geoff Towner (bass, El Mopa), Pete Kelly (guitar, Sea Life Park), Kenny Davis Jr (keyboards, piano, The Jackson Code, The Blackeyed Susans) & Matt Fitzgerald (keyboards, guitar).
