Deshamanya Professor A. H. Sheriffdeen is a Sri Lankan surgeon, academic and voluntary worker. Education Sheriffdeen was educated at St Andrew's College, Nawalapitiya, St. Anthony's College, Kandy and Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo qualifying Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He trained in the UK becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Professional career Sheriffdeen was Professor of Surgery at Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo with contemporaries Priyani Soysa, Ravindra fernando and Rezvi Sheriff. Deshamanya ( si, දේශමාන්ය, translit=Dēshamāṉya; ta, தேசமான்ய, translit=Tēcamāṉya; Pride of the Nation) is the second-highest national honour of Sri Lanka awarded by the Government of Sri Lanka as a civil honour. Postgraduate Institute Of Medicine
The Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) of the University of Colombo is the graduate school that provides specialist training and board certification of medical doctors in Sri Lanka. The only type of its kind, it is similar to the prestigious Royal Medical Colleges of the United Kingdom. Internationally known for its training programs, the center was established in 1976 as the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine under the University of Ceylon Act No.1 of 1976 with Professor K. N. Jaipur Foot
The Jaipur foot, also known as the Jaipur leg, is a rubber-based prosthetic leg for people with below-knee amputations. Although inferior in many ways to the composite carbon fibre variants, its variable applicability and cost efficiency make it an acceptable choice for prosthesis. Ram Chandra Sharma and orthopedic surgeon P. K. Sethi designed and developed it in 1968. The Jaipur foot consists of a rubber core, wooden block and vulcanised rubber coating. It is a soft multi axial artificial foot and provides enough dorsiflexion to permit an amputee to squat. Ravindra Fernando is a Sri Lankan forensic pathologist, toxicologist, physician, author and academic. He is the current chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board of Sri Lanka. Deshamanya Priyani Elizabeth Soysa ( si, ප්රියානි සොයිසා; 23 November 1925 – 7 April 2023) was a Sri Lankan scientist who was Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics of the University of Colombo and the first woman to be appointed to a professorial chair in Sri Lanka. Early life and education Soysa was born on 23 November 1925. After completing her studies in Princess of Wales College, Moratuwa, she entered the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo where she graduated with First Class Honours in the final MBBS exam. Thereafter, she proceeded to the United Kingdom to pursue her specialist studies in Paediatrics.
