AFI (A Fire Inside)
AFI (abbreviation for A Fire Inside) is an American Rock music, rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson, bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members. Originally a hardcore punk band, they have since delved into many genres, starting with horror punk and following through post-hardcore and emo into alternative rock and gothic rock. AFI has released eleven studio albums, ten Extended play, EPs, one live album and one DVD. The band first reached substantial commercial success with their fifth album, ''The Art of Drowning (album), The Art of Drowning'' (2000), which peaked at number 174 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. Davey Havok
David Paden Marchand (born David Paden Passaro, November 20, 1975), known professionally as Davey Havok, is an American singer and musician who is the lead vocalist of the rock band AFI, the synth-pop band Blaqk Audio, the hardcore punk band XTRMST, and the new wave band Dreamcar. Amongst various other ventures, he performed lead vocals for Son of Sam's debut album and for fictional band My Purple Agony in the animated series ''Harvey Girls Forever!''. Havok is an outspoken advocate of the straight edge lifestyle and veganism. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. ''The Art of Drowning'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band AFI. It was released on September 19, 2000, through Nitro Records. Production In June 2000, the band finished recording ''The Art of Drowning''. Composition The album's second track, "The Lost Souls", was originally titled "The Art of Drowning". "The Despair Factor" features AFI's first notable use of electronic drums. On the song, vocalist Davey Havok states: "My whole life is a dark room... one big dark room," a line spoken by Winona Ryder in the film ''Beetlejuice'' (1988). ''Very Proud of Ya'' is the second studio album by American rock band AFI. It was released on June 18, 1996, through Nitro Records. Background The liner notes of the album state that all the tracks are copyrighted to Anthems for Insubordinates, while the mailing address states the band's name as Asking for It. It is the last album to feature bassist Geoff Kresge, who illustrated the album cover as well. The album features future band member Jade Puget performing back-up vocals. It was recorded in about a week. The tracks "Two of a Kind" and "Yürf Rendenmein" were re-recorded from their debut album ''Answer That and Stay Fashionable''. ''Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes'' is the third studio album by American punk rock band AFI. It was released on November 11, 1997, through Nitro Records. Overview This is the first album to feature bassist Hunter Burgan, although he was not a permanent member of AFI at the time, as well as the final album to feature founding guitarist Mark Stopholese. Burgan was offered about $500 to play on the album, but he requested $666. Future band member Jade Puget performed backing vocals for the album as well, making the album the first to feature AFI's current lineup. Geoff Kresge
Geoff Kresge is a songwriter, guitarist, bassist, and record producer. He played with the punk rock/horror punk band AFI for most of their early career, from 1992 through 1997, and co-wrote the majority of their early material alongside frontman Davey Havok. During an AFI hiatus in 1993, he briefly moved to New York to join street punk band Blanks 77. He later went on to play with Canadian horror rock group The Forbidden Dimension and also a high-energy rock band, The Daggers, before subsequently joining the psychobilly band Tiger Army. Though he played an electric bass in his previous bands, for Tiger Army he chose an upright bass. Career Kresge joined Tiger Army in 1999 just as the band became a full-time touring band, hitting the road in support of their debut album. He appeared as standup bassist on the band's next two full-length albums, Tiger Army II: Power of Moonlite and Tiger Army III: Ghost Tigers Rise, and in each of the videos from those records.
