AEP Building
The AEP Building is a skyscraper in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was completed in 1983 and has 31 floors. Abramovitz, Harris & Kingsland designed the building following a modernist architectural style. The AEP Building is the 8th tallest building in Columbus. It has served as the headquarters of the American Electric Power (AEP) since the company relocated from New York City in 1983. At the front of the building are two sculptures created by George Greenamyer. The sculptures were turbine rotors, which came from the former Philo Power Plant in Philo, Ohio and the Twin Branch Power Plant in Mishawaka, Indiana. Rhodes State Office Tower
The James A. Rhodes State Office Tower is a 41-story, skyscraper on Capitol Square in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The Rhodes Tower was completed and occupied in 1974, and is currently the tallest building in Columbus and the fifth tallest in Ohio. Currently, approximately 4,000 state employees work in the building. Construction costs totaled approximately $66 million, and necessitated demolition of the Columbus Board of Trade Building and Spahr Building. It is named after Ohio's longest-serving governor, James A. Rhodes. The building's odd shape is attributed to a last-minute decision to cap its height; originally, the building was supposed to be nearly taller. Abramovitz, Harris & Kingsland
Max Abramovitz (May 23, 1908 – September 12, 2004) was an American architect. He was best known for his work with the New York City firm Harrison & Abramovitz. Life Abramovitz was the son of Romanian Jewish immigrant parents. He graduated in 1929 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Architecture. While at Illinois, Abramovitz was a member of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. He later received an M.S. from Columbia University's architecture school in 1931. He also was the recipient of a two-year fellowship at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before returning to the US and becoming partners with Wallace Harrison from 1941 to 1976. In 1961, he was an invited resident (RAAR) of the American Academy in Rome. Abramovitz died in September 2004 in Pound Ridge, New York, at the age of 96. Turner Construction is an American construction company with presence in 20 countries. It is a subsidiary of the German company Hochtief. George Greenamyer
George Greenamyer (born 1939, Cleveland, Ohio, US) is an American sculptor. He received a BFA in 1963 from the Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA in 1969 from the University of Kansas. He was a professor at the Massachusetts College of Art for more than thirty years. His 1983 work includes making use of two turbines from the Philo Power Plant and Twin Branch Power Plant as sculptures. The two turbines were mounted onto granite piers were placed in a plaza at the AEP Building in Columbus, Ohio. From 1988 to 1991, Greenamyer staged an annual event at Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, Missouri called "Fire and Ice", in which he fashioned a massive ice sculpture that was then set ablaze over a bonfire.
