ACOLOP Members
ACOLOP (acronym for ; en, Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees), is an Olympic-related non-profit organization officially established on June 8, 2004, in Lisbon and has been approved by International Olympic Committee. It was founded by the national Olympic committees (NOCs) of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Macau ( Chinese SAR), Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe; it also includes Equatorial Guinea as an associate member. In April 2006, India (represented by the Goa Olympic Association) and Sri Lanka were admitted also as associate members, based on their common historical past with Portugal. The Portuguese-speaking countries are spread through four continents and reach a total population of about 250 million people. Portuguese thus occupies a place among the most spoken languages in the world. The purpose of reinforcing the bonds between these nations and promoting unity and cooperation through sport was the main reason ... Pedro Mabale Fuga Afang (born 1 January 1954) is an Equatorial Guinean politician and a retired football player and manager. He has been Secretary of State for Youth and Sports of Equatorial Guinea, Equatorial Guinea Olympic Committee General Secretary, Professor of Physical Education in several Centres and Colleges, Ministerial Sports Advisor. João Viegas Carrascalão
João Viegas Carrascalão (11 August 1945 – 18 February 2012; Dili, East Timor) was an East Timorese politician. He was one of the candidates in the April 2007 presidential election in East Timor. He studied topography and surveying in Luanda and specialized in cartography in Switzerland. He was president of the Timorese Democratic Union (UDT) which he also co-founded. He supervised the August 11, 1975 coup which eventually started the civil war. The latter forced the governor, Mario Lemos Pires, to flee as well as the Portuguese contingent stationed on the nearing island of Ataúro. Consequently, Carrascalão moved to Australia and resided there throughout the Indonesian occupation. He integrated the leading agencies of the CNRT. Lusophony Games
The Lusofonia Games ( pt, Jogos da Lusofonia) is a multinational multi-sport event organized by the ACOLOP, which involves athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries. Most countries competing are countries that are members of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries), but some are countries with significant Portuguese communities or have a history with Portugal.
