ACA Hurricane
The ACA Hurricane was an electro-mechanical and rotating-directional, 130 dB civil defense siren, created and produced by Alerting Communicators of America ''(ACA)''. ACA began manufacturing the Hurricane 130 in 1968, and began production in 1981. The Hurricane 130 is very similar to the Federal Signal Thunderbolt series and was also meant to compete with the Federal Signal Thunderbolt. History The ACA Hurricane 130 was designed by James E. Biersach of Alerting Communicators of America and presented at a Civil Defense convention in November 1968. They introduced other sirens, however, this utilized new fibreglass casting techniques, never before used by any other company. Sentry Siren, formerly known as Sterling Siren, is a civil defense siren brand. History Sentry Siren was founded as the Interstate Machine Products Company of Rochester, New York in the very early 20th century. The company would later rename itself to the Sterling Siren and Fire Alarm Company in 1925. The company began producing sirens in 1902, producing small scale vehicular sirens, before beginning large scale siren production with the Model M series of sirens beginning in 1912, designed by Merton C. Armstrong. The Model M was used in fire warning, air-raid warning, and disaster warning and ended production in the 1980s to make way for a new line of sirens. The units were noted for their durability; a 1917 Model M siren is still in use today by the Manchester, Michigan Fire Department. The ATI Soundblaster HPSS (High-Power Speaker Station) is an electronic outdoor warning siren manufactured by Acoustic Technology, IncATI that is used to alert citizens of tornadoes, hurricanes, severe thunderstorms, fires and so on. The recent HPSS systems use high-powered electronic speakers, which can be independently arranged to provide directional or omnidirectional coverage, depending on installation.
