ABC Radio Sydney
ABC Radio Sydney (official call sign: 2BL, formerly 2SB) is an ABC radio station in Sydney, Australia. It is the flagship station in the ABC Local Radio network and broadcasts on 702 kHz on the AM dial. The station transmits with a power ( CMF) of 3,110V, which is equivalent to 50 kW (the maximum permissible in Australia) from a site west of the Sydney CBD. History ABC Radio Sydney is the first public radio station in Australia opened in Sydney at 8:00pm on 23 November 1923. Its first callsign was ''2SB'' where ''2'' denotes the State of New South Wales and ''SB'' stood for Sydney Broadcasters Limited. However, the callsign was soon altered to ''2BL'' for Sydney Broadcasters Limited. The change was due to the audio similarity of the sounds FC and SB. Career Sara's career began with Outback Radio (2WEB) in Bourke, New South Wales. Sarah Macdonald (born 1966) is an Australian journalist, author and radio presenter, and has been associated with several ABC radio programs, including Triple J and Radio National. She is also known for her book ''Holy Cow! An Indian Adventure''. Early life and education Macdonald was born in Crown Street, Surry Hills, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, in 1966. She studied psychology at university, before engaging in extensive travel. James Valentine (journalist)
James Matthew Valentine (born 1961) is an Australian musician, and radio and television presenter. As a saxophonist he was a member of Jo Jo Zep (1982), Models (1984–87) and Absent Friends (1989–90). Biography James Matthew Valentine was born in 1961 in Ballarat. His father was a car salesman and his mother taught elocution and was a part-time radio announcer. He has two older brothers. He attended Ballarat Grammar School where he learned saxophone, he described his performances in the local area, "a really bad jazz rock fusion gig." In the early 1980s Valentine relocated to Melbourne to attend university, he later recalled "First year I spent studying, and then I started getting gigs, and I didn't pay much attention to uni after that because I wanted to be a jazz musician." 891 ABC Adelaide
ABC Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5AN) is the ABC Local Radio station for Adelaide. It is broadcast at 891 kHz on the AM band. It is also available on Digital TV in Adelaide. History 5AN started transmitting on 15 October 1937 with equipment located in the central telephone exchange, and a radio mast located in Post Office Place. The station transmitter moved to Brooklyn Park, already the site of 5CL's transmitter, on 4 May 1944. The radio mast was moved from the east side of the building to the south side in 1952 to make way for a road to the projected new airport.
