ABC Kinglake Ranges
ABC Kinglake Ranges was a temporary radio service broadcasting from Kinglake, Victoria, Australia, to areas in the Shire of Murrindindi affected by the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009. The station was first broadcast on 9 March 2009, initially from a makeshift transmitter on 97.1FM. Coverage extended to the towns of Flowerdale and Hazeldene through the local repeater of the Wodonga-based ABC Goulburn Murray service. The station broadcast a local breakfast program, presented from the studios of 774 ABC Melbourne by Louise Fitzroy. A mornings program was presented from temporary studios in Kinglake by Simon Rogers, with additional community-focused programming and simulcasts of national programming from ABC Local Radio. In July 2009, the service ceased broadcasting after five months on air. Alexandra-based UGFM commenced operation of a permanent community radio station on 94.5FM in Kinglake from 6 September 2009. Kinglake, Victoria
Kinglake is a town in Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shires of Murrindindi and Nillumbik local government areas. Kinglake recorded a population of 1,662 at the 2021 census. The town was one of the worst affected during the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. Alexandra, Victoria
Alexandra is a town in north-east Victoria, Australia, 130 kilometres north-east of the State Capital, Melbourne. It is located at the junction of the Goulburn Valley Highway (B340) and Maroondah Highway (B360), in the Shire of Murrindindi local government area. At the , the town had a population of 2,695 and the broader area (Alexandra District) a population of 6420. Reactions To The Black Saturday Bushfire Crisis
The Black Saturday bushfires were a series of fires that ignited across the Australian state of Victoria during extreme weather conditions on 7 February 2009. Burning around 450,000 ha for over a month, the fires destroyed over 2,100 homes, destroyed several regional towns and were fought by over 5,000 firefighting personnel. The Fires devastated many. Responses to the Black Saturday bushfires included immediate community response, donations, and, later, international aid efforts, Government inquiries (including a Royal Commission), and recommendations and discussions from a wide variety of bodies, organisations, authorities and communities. Government Federal parliament was suspended due to the emergency. The Premier of Victoria, John Brumby, accepted an offer from the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, to dispatch members of the Australian Defence Force to provide assistance in that state. ABC Goulburn Murray (call sign: 3MRR) is an ABC Local Radio station based in Wodonga, Victoria, broadcasting to North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales. First aired on 16 December 1931 as 2CO from studios in Albury, New South Wales, in 2000 the station's AM transmitter in Corowa was reallocated to ABC Riverina. The Shire of Murrindindi is a local government area in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia, located in the north-east part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 14,478. It includes the towns of Alexandra, Buxton, Eildon, Flowerdale, Kinglake, Marysville, Molesworth, Strath Creek, Taggerty, Yarck and Yea.
