AA Massanutten District
The AA Massanutten District was a high school conference of the Virginia High School League, consisting of schools in Rockingham County and Harrisonburg, Virginia. Schools in the Massanutten District competed in AA Region III with the schools in the AA Blue Ridge District, the AA Seminole District, and the AA Southern Valley District. The district was created in 2007 out of the former members of the AA Valley District which were located in the Harrisonburg area. Virginia High School League
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) is the principal sanctioning organization for interscholastic athletic competition among public high schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VHSL first sponsored debate and also continues to sponsor state championships in several academic activities. Private and religious schools and teams of homeschooled students belong to other sanctioning organizations, the largest of which is the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. Proposals in the Virginia General Assembly to mandate that the VHSL allow homeschooled students to compete for the public high school they would otherwise attend have failed to pass. Spotswood High School (Virginia)
Spotswood High School is a high school in Penn Laird, Virginia, in shadow of the Massanutten Peak. As of 2008, it competes in the Virginia High School League. History Spotswood High School had its formal beginning in 1973 when the County School Board authorized an Eastern Rockingham building study and requested a report on a proposed new high school for eastern Rockingham County. A committee, composed of community persons from the Elkton and Montevideo attendance areas, as well as Central Office staff members, three Principals and several teachers from both Montevideo and Elkton High Schools, was organized to develop the education specifications for the proposed new plant. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. Turner Ashby High School
Turner Ashby High School is located in Bridgewater, Virginia in the Rockingham County Public School district. History When Turner Ashby High School opened in the fall of 1956, it became the third consolidated high school in Rockingham County. Schools consolidated were Bridgewater, Dayton, and Mt. Clinton. The original Turner Ashby building was located on a twenty-acre plot on the north side of Dayton, and now serves grades six through eight as Wilbur S. Pence Middle School. The name Turner Ashby High School was selected by the Rockingham County School Board because of the school’s location in the Ashby District of the county. Rockingham County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 83,757. Its county seat is the independent city of Harrisonburg. Broadway High School (Broadway, Virginia)
Broadway High School is a public secondary school in Broadway, Virginia. It is located at 269 Gobbler Drive. History The original Broadway School was a small, one-room building that opened in the mid-1870s and was taught by C. E. Barglebaugh, just eighteen years old. Four rooms were added over the years, but it burned down in 1907. A brick building with a library, office, auditorium, and six rooms replaced it. A high school was built adjacent to that building in 1920, and grade school and high school were divided. A new facility built west of the town in the 1950s was used as a high school until completion of the current building at its current location in January 1998, upon which time it became J. AA Valley District
The AA Valley District is a district in Region III of the Virginia High School League. As the district's name implies, all the schools are located in the central part of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, along Interstate 81. Most of the member schools are part of the Harrisonburg and Staunton areas. Overview In 2007, all of the Valley District member schools moved from Region II to Region III due to the growth of Region II and the realignment of the AA River Ridge District from Region III to Region IV. In addition, the district split into two separate districts after the regional shift.
