AACTA Award For Best Indie Film
The AACTA Award for Best Indie Film is an award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) since 2018. The award is presented at the annual AACTA Awards, which hand out accolades for achievements in feature film, television, documentaries and short films. Since 2024 the awards have been held at the Gold Coast, Queensland. History The establishment of the AACTA Award for Best Indie Film was announced on 1 May 2018. The inaugural award was won by ''Jirga (film), Jirga'', directed by Benjamin Gilmour. Eligibility The intention of the award is to allow "a pathway into competition for a greater number of films from filmmakers with diverse backgrounds (gender, sexual and cultural diversity), as well as films from emerging filmmakers". Only films with a budget of under million are eligible. The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, known as the AACTA Awards, are presented annually by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). Rodd Rathjen
Rod Rathjen is an Australian film director. Life He was born in Colbinabbin and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2010. Rodd is a graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts. His final year film 'Thirst' won 'Best Directing' at the College's screening night. Rodd has continued to work as a director, most notably his short film ''Tau Seru'' (2013) was selected to screen at Cannes as part of Critic's Week and won awards including Best Australian Short Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Lucy Coleman (director)
Lucy Coleman (born 29 March 1998) is an Australian representative lightweight Rowing (sport), rower. She is an Australian national champion and has represented at senior World Championships. Club and state rowing Coleman was raised in far western NSW and boarded at St Hilda's School in Southport where she took up rowing. She first made state selection for Queensland in the 2017 women's youth eight which contested the Bicentennial Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. Coleman then studied at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and rowed at varsity level. She won a silver medal in a lightweight women's double scull at the US IRA Championships in 2018. Following her return from the USA she rowed from the Sydney University Boat Club. In 2021 in SUBC colours she won the open lightweight women's quad scull title at the Australian Rowing Championships and placed second in the open lightweight double scull.
