The Asian American Arts Centre (AAAC) is a non-profit organization located in Chinatown, Manhattan, Chinatown in New York City. Founded in 1974, it is one of the earliest Asian-American, Asian American community organizations in the United States. The Arts Centre presents the ongoing developments between contemporary Asian & Asian American art forms and Western art forms through the presentation of performance, exhibitions, and public education. AAAC's permanent collection, which it has accumulated since 1989, contains hundreds of contemporary Asian American art works and traditional/folk art pieces. John Yau
John Yau (born June 5, 1950) is an American poet and critic who lives in New York City. He received his B.A. from Bard College in 1972 and his M.F.A. from Brooklyn College in 1978. He has published over 50 books of poetry, artists' books, fiction, and art criticism. Life and career According to Matthew Rohrer's profile on Yau from ''Poets & Writers Magazine'', Yau's parents settled in Boston after emigrating from China in 1949. His father was a bookkeeper. As a child Yau was friends with the son of the Chinese-born abstract painter John Way. Wang Dan (dissident)
Wang Dan (born February 26, 1969) is a leader of the Chinese democracy movement and was one of the most visible student leaders in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. He holds a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University, and from August 2009 to February 2010, Wang taught cross-strait history at Taiwan's National Chengchi University, as a visiting scholar. He then taught at National Tsing Hua University until 2015. Besides conducting research on related topics, Wang is active in promoting freedom and democracy in China. Based in the United States, he travels the world to garner support from Overseas Chinese communities as well as from the public at large. He is a friend of fellow activists Wang Juntao and Liu Gang. Chai Ling
Chai Ling (; born April 15, 1966) is a Chinese psychologist who was one of the student leaders in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. She is the founder of All Girls Allowed, an organization dedicated to ending China's one-child policy, and the founder and president of Jenzabar, an enterprise resource planning software firm for educational institutions. Life in China Chai was born on April 15, 1966, in Rizhao, Shandong. Both Chai's mother and father had been doctors in the People's Liberation Army during the 1950s. Russell Senate Office Building
The Russell Senate Office Building is the oldest of the United States Senate office buildings. Designed in the Beaux-Arts architectural style, it was built from 1903 to 1908 and opened in 1909. Martin Wong
Martin Wong (; July 11, 1946 – August 12, 1999) was a Chinese-American Visual arts of the United States, painter of the late 20th century. His work has been described as a meticulous blend of social realism and visionary art, visionary art styles. Zuni Icosahedron
Zuni Icosahedron is a Hong Kong-based international experimental theatre company. Founded in 1982, Zuni is one of the nine major professional performing arts groups subsidised by the HKSAR government and has produced more than 190 original productions of alternative theatre and multimedia performances. The Tiananmen Square protests, known in Chinese as the June Fourth Incident (), were student-led demonstrations held in Tiananmen Square, Beijing during 1989. Eyes are organs of the visual system. They provide living organisms with vision, the ability to receive and process visual detail, as well as enabling several photo response functions that are independent of vision. Eyes detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons (neurones). In higher organisms, the eye is a complex optical system which collects light from the surrounding environment, regulates its intensity through a diaphragm, focuses it through an adjustable assembly of lenses to form an image, converts this image into a set of electrical signals, and transmits these signals to the brain through complex neural pathways that connect the eye via the optic nerve to the visual cortex and other areas of the brain. John Woo
John Woo Yu-Sen SBS (; born September 22, 1946) is a Hong Kong filmmaker, known as a highly-influential figure in the action film genre. Lydia Okumura
Lydia Okumura (born 1948) is a Brazilian artist known for her geometric abstractions. Biography Okumura was born in 1948 in São Paulo. She studied at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, graduating in 1973. In the 1970s she was part of a São Paulo art collective, "Equipe3". In 1973, Equipe3 participated in the São Paulo Bienal with the site-specific work ''Pontos de vista''. Around that time Okumura moved to New York City to attended the Pratt Graphics Center. She has exhibited extensively since the 1970s. Okumura's practice includes drawings, wall paintings and sculptural installations that play with spatial illusions using geometric abstraction.
