ISO 216 is an International Organization for Standardization, international standard for paper sizes, used around the world except in North America and parts of Latin America. The standard defines the "A", "B" and "C" series of paper sizes, including A4, the most commonly available paper size worldwide. A3 is an amputee sport classification used by the International Sports Organization for the Disabled (ISOD) for people with acquired or congenital amputations. A3 classified sportspeople have both legs amputated below knee. Their amputations impact their sport performance, including having balance issues, increased energy costs, higher rates of oxygen consumption, and issues with their gait. Sports people in this class are eligible to participate in include athletics, swimming, sitting volleyball, archery, weightlifting, badminton, lawn bowls, sitzball and wheelchair basketball. Bavarian A III
The Bavarian A III 2-2-2 engines were German steam locomotives in service with the Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königlich Bayerische Staatsbahn''). Once again these engines were used to experiment with a short boiler and Meyer expansion valve gear. Because the additional increase in size of the heating area could not be improved by installing extra tubes, two of each were rebuilt to 0-4-2 and 0-6-2 locomotives. Otherwise their construction was the same as the Class A II engines. They were equipped with 2 T 4.2 and, following the rebuild, 2 T 5 tenders. The A-3 lifeboat was an airborne lifeboat developed by the EDO Corporation in 1947 for the United States Air Force (USAF) as a successor to the Higgins Industries A-1 lifeboat. The A-3 lifeboat was a key element of "Dumbo" rescue flights of the 1950s. Specifications EDO built the lifeboat of aluminum alloy to be carried by the SB-29 Super Dumbo performing air-sea rescue duties during the Korean War. Approximately 100 of these lifeboats were built—their serial numbers began at 501 and continued in sequence. The A-3 lifeboat was long and it weighed when fully loaded and ready for attachment to the aircraft. The A-3 lifeboat could rescue 15 people.
