A. Lloyd MacDonald
Alexander Lloyd MacDonald (February 8, 1921 – March 9, 2007) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Pictou East in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1963 to 1967, and 1970 to 1974. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. MacDonald was born in 1921 at Garden of Eden, Nova Scotia. He married Margaret Elizabeth Dickie in 1948, and was employed as a supervisor at the TrentonWorks, Hawker Siddeley manufacturing plant in Trenton, Nova Scotia. MacDonald entered provincial politics in the 1963 Nova Scotia general election, 1963 election, winning the Pictou East riding by 11 votes. He was defeated by Progressive Conservative Thomas MacQueen (politician), Thomas MacQueen when he ran for re-election in 1967 Nova Scotia general election, 1967. MacDonald regained the seat in the 1970 Nova Scotia general election, 1970 election, defeating MacQueen by 19 votes. He did not reoffer in the 1974 Nova Scotia general election, 1974 election. Garden Of Eden, Nova Scotia
Garden of Eden is a small community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Pictou County. The Garden of Eden was settled and named by William Alexander MacDonald in 1830, when he and his family emigrated from Caithness, Scotland. This was part of a larger diaspora of Scots leaving for the Americas and Australia following the 45', the second Jacobite rebellion. This exodus was called the Highland Clearances. Bagpipes, Tartan and the hallowed clan system were outlawed and several Scots faced persecution. There have been nine generations of the MacDonald family to live in the Garden since it was settled. Eden Lake is the largest lake in Pictou County and has been a draw for tourists and cottagers alike. The annual Blue Mtn. district Fire Department fishing derby is the preeminent event of the summer, taking place in the first weekend of June.
