A. L. S. Lakshmanan is an Indian politician who was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in the 2016 elections from the Tirunelveli constituency. He was a candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party and won the seat from the incumbent, Nainar Nagendran, by 601 votes. The result overturned the outcome of the 2011 contest for the seat, when Nagendran had won by over 38,000 votes. Lakshmanan's father was A. L. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has a strength of 234 members of whom are democratically elected using the First-past-the-post voting, First-past-the-post system. The Fifteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 16 May 2016 for the 232 seats (except Thanjavur Assembly constituency, Thanjavur and Aravakurichi Assembly constituency, Aravakurichi for which held on 26 October 2016) of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (; DMK) is a political party based in the state of Tamil Nadu where it is currently the ruling party having a comfortable majority without coalition support and the union territory of Puducherry where it is currently the main opposition. It is also one of the two main political parties in Tamil Nadu, along with the rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Nainar Nagendran
Nainar Nagendran is an Indian politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state of Tamil Nadu. Political career He left the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party in August 2017 to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was one of several AIADMK figures to do so and soon after his move he was appointed a state-level BJP vice-president. As an AIADMK candidate, Nagendran was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Tirunelveli constituency in the 2001 and 2011 state assembly elections. He lost the seat by 606 votes in the election of 2006 and in 2016, when the difference was 601. His opponent in the latter election was A. L. S. The Fourteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members from 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Results were released on 13 May 2011.
