Anthony James "A.J." Soares (born November 28, 1988) is an American retired association football, soccer player who played as a center back for Orange County Blue Star, New England Revolution, Viking FK, Viking and Aarhus Gymnastikforening, AGF. Career Early life, college and amateur Soares was born in Solana Beach, California. He attended Torrey Pines High School where he was the captain for his junior and senior seasons, and won the 2005 Division 1 CIF Championship. He played college soccer at the University of California, Berkeley. As the California Golden Bears, Cal co-captain in 2010, Soares was named a NSCAA, National Soccer Coaches Association of America First Team All American, Pac-10 Player of the Year, Goal.com Player of the Year. Solana Beach, California
Solana Beach (''Solana'', Spanish for "warm wind") is a coastal city in San Diego County, California. Its population was at 12,941 at the 2020 U.S. Census, up from 12,867 at the 2010 Census. History The area was first settled by the San Dieguitos, early Holocene inhabitants of the area. The area was later inhabited by the Kumeyaay, who set up a village they called ''Kulaumai'', on the southern banks of the San Elijo Lagoon. During the Spanish colonial era, trails heading north near Solana Beach crossed inland to avoid the marshes and inlets of the area. The George H. Jones family were the first European settlers in the area, arriving in 1886. Until 1923, the area had been called Lockwood Mesa. When Lake Hodges Dam was built in 1917–1918, the area began to develop rapidly. The 2011 MLS SuperDraft was the twelfth annual SuperDraft presented by Major League Soccer.
