A. C. De Zoysa
Ainsley Clive "Bunty" de Zoysa, PC (1923 - 22 September 1983) was a Sri Lankan criminal lawyer. Early life and education Born to Sir Francis de Zoysa, KC an Advocate and member of the first State Council and Lady Ethel Perera Amarasekera Siriwardena, his brothers were DIG Sydney de Zoysa, Stanley de Zoysa and Lucien de Zoysa. Richard de Zoysa was his nephew. He was educated at the Royal College, Colombo and at the Ceylon Law College, taking oaths as an Advocate in 1949. Legal career Having practiced under Dr Colvin R de Silva, Bunty de Zoysa joined the Attorney General’s Department as a Crown Counsel in 1951, on the invitation of Sir Alan Rose, the Attorney General. President's Counsel
President's Counsel (postnominal PC) is an eminent lawyer who is appointed by the President of Sri Lanka to be one of the "President's Counsel learned in the law". The term is also recognized as an honorific which replaced the practice of appointment of Queen's Counsel (QC) which ceased when Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. It is equivalent to the appointment of King's Counsel in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, such as New Zealand, and the equivalent of Senior Counsel in Commonwealth republics, such as South Africa, and derives the same privileges such as the privilege of sitting within the Bar of court. President's Counsel is a professional rank and status, conferred by the President under the Article 33 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka which is recognised by courts. Alan Rose
Sir Alan Edward Percival Rose was a British barrister and colonial judge. Early life and education Rose was born in London, the son of author Charles Edward Rose. He was educated at Aldenham School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He served in the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade of the British Army in World War I. He was called to the bar in 1923. Career Rose served in the Colonial Legal Service from 1929 to 1942 in Fiji, Rhodesia and Palestine. After serving as Solicitor General of British Palestine, Rose became Commissioner in charge of investigating corruption in the Customs Department in 1942 before serving in Ceylon until 1955. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ceylon in 1945, served as Legal Secretary in 1946–47 and Attorney General of Ceylon from 1947 to 1951, before being appointed the 30th Chief Justice of Ceylon.
