Associazione Calcio Codogno (AC Codogno) is an association football or soccer club based in the northern Italian province of Lodi. Formed in 1908, it is now known as "UC Codogno". Over the years, it has enjoyed variable success. For the most part, UC Codogno plays at the Lombardy regional level. History AC Codogno was founded in 1908 under the name "Codogno Sports Association". In Codogno, at that time, there were some existing sports entities such as AS Fanfulla, the "Students' Association" (later Circle Pallavicino) and the FBC Lodi. However, Association Football in Codogno had its origins in smaller clubs such as SG Codogno which promoted gymnastics and athletics. Codogno
Codogno (; Lodigiano: ) is a town and ''comune'' of 15,868 inhabitants in the province of Lodi, Lombardy, northern Italy. It is the main center of the plain known as Basso Lodigiano, which has about 90,000 inhabitants. It received the honorary title of city with a presidential decree on June 26, 1955. History There is evidence of a settlement dating back to Roman penetration of Gaul, where it is thought to have been used as a ''castrum''. The Latin form of the name Codogna was "Cothoneum" and is believed to derive from the name of the consul Aurelius Cotta, conqueror of the Gauls, who inhabited these lands at that time. However, it is not until 997 C.E. that the name of the town is found in print. It is mentioned in a charter of Emperor Otto II. It has also been suggested that the name may be derived from the ''cydonia'' apple, or the ''melo cotogno'', a variety of quince, both common in this region. Fanfulla
Luigi Visconti, better known by his stage name Fanfulla, (26 February 1913 – 5 January 1971) was an Italian actor and comedian. Life and career Born in Rome, Visconti debuted at very young age on stage alongside his mother, the actress Mercedes Menolesi (best known as "Diavolina"). From the mid-forties to the late fifties, he adopted the stage name Fanfulla and was a popular comedian of cabaret and avanspettacolo shows, acclaimed for his brilliant style, referred to as "The King of Avanspettacolo" and even paired with Ettore Petrolini. His career was relaunched by Federico Fellini, who chose him for the role of Vernacchio in ''Fellini Satyricon'', a role that gave Fanfulla a Nastro d'Argento for best supporting actor. In 1970, Fellini gave him a main role in '' The Clowns''. In 1971, Fanfulla died from a heart attack in a hotel in Bologna, while he was on tour with his avanspettacolo company.
