A. Rafiq
A. Rafiq (5 March 1948 – 19 January 2013) was a prominent Jakarta-based dangdut artist. He was active in the Indonesian music industry from the 1970s onwards. He launched his first single, "Pandangan Pertama" ("First Sight") in 1978. The single was a huge hit and propelled his career in the Indonesian '70s dangdut scene. Rafiq, along with Rhoma Irama and Elvy Sukaesih were the three most popular dangdut singer in the '70s. Rafiq is well known for his Elvis-inspired stage costume and hip-gyrating movements. The hit "Pengalaman Pertama" enjoyed a second popularity in 2002, when it was remade by one of the most popular Indonesian singers Chrisye in his album ''Dekade''. In 2007, Pengalaman Pertama was again remade by popular Indonesian rock band Slank in the original motion picture soundtrack of Indonesian movie "Get Married". Dekade
''Dekade'' (; en, Decade) is a 2002 Indonesian pop album published by Musica Studios and Chrisye's nineteenth studio album. It is also his only cover album. Creation The idea for ''Dekade'' came when Chrisye thought about previously popular songs that were later forgotten. Believing that all genres of modern music draw inspiration from the past, he spoke with Erwin Gutawa, who agreed that they should make a tribute to the history of Indonesian pop music. They worked together to find songs that they could obtain the rights to use and that matched Chrisye's timbre. Eventually, they decided on "Kr. Dangdut People
Dangdut () is a genre of Indonesian folk music that is partly derived and fused from Hindustani, Arabic and to lesser extent, Malay and local folk music. Dangdut is a most popular musical genre in Indonesia and a very popular in other Malay world countries as well because of its melodious instrumentation and vocals. Dangdut features a tabla and gendang beat. One of the most popular Dangdut musicians and singers such as Rhoma Irama, known as the "King of Dangdut"; Mansyur S.; Meggy Z; and Ellya Khadam include strong Indian-music influence in the basis of harmony, theme, and beat to their songs and also by other popular dangdut singers. A dangdut band typically consists of a lead singer, male or female, backed by four to eight musicians. ''The Jakarta Post'' is a daily English-language newspaper in Indonesia. The paper is owned by PT Niskala Media Tenggara and based in the nation's capital, Jakarta. Slank
Slank is an Indonesian rock band. It was founded in 1983 by teenagers in an alley street in Jakarta called Gang Potlot. The band is also known for its song which are often accompanied with political and socially conscious lyrics. It continues to be active and has received many awards from the Indonesian music industry. History Early years Bimo Setiawan Almachzumi (Bimbim) created Cikini Stones Complex (CSC) in the early 1980s. The band covered Rolling Stones songs. In 1983 the band broke up. Accompanied by his colleagues Denny and Erwan, Bimbim created the band Red Devil. For the guitarist Bimbim brought in Bongky Marcel. In December 1983 they changed their band name to Slank because they looked "selengean" ("rebellious" or "unruly"). Chrisye
Hajji Chrismansyah Rahadi (; 16 September 1949 – 30 March 2007), born Christian Rahadi (), better known by his stage name Chrisye (), was an Indonesian progressive pop singer and songwriter. In 2011 ''Rolling Stone Indonesia'' declared him the third-greatest Indonesian musician of all time. Born in Jakarta of mixed Chinese-Indonesian descent, Chrisye became interested in music at an early age. At high school he played bass guitar in a band he formed with his brother, Joris. In the late 1960s he joined Sabda Nada (later Gipsy), a band led by his neighbours, the Nasutions. In 1973, after a short hiatus, he rejoined the band to play in New York for a year. Elvy Sukaesih (born June 25, 1951 in Jakarta) is one of the most popular dangdut singers in Indonesia, and has been dubbed the Queen of Dangdut. Rhoma Irama
Raden Haji Oma Irama, better known as Rhoma Irama (born December 11, 1946), is an Indonesian dangdut singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sundanese descent. Starting from the late 1960s, he began his musical career as Rhoma Irama as a part of the pop band Orkes Melayu Purnama, pioneering several dangdut music elements. He then formed his band Soneta Group, achieving multitudes of musical successes with groundbreaking dangdut style which incorporates Western, Malay, and Bollywood influences. From the late 1970s, he began transforming into more Islamic-oriented style, commanding the religiously pious popular music culture.
