A. Hamer Reiser
Albert Hamer Reiser (August 31, 1897 – April 25, 1981) was a prominent community leader in Utah and a missionary and leader of the Sunday School in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Reiser was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Albert S. Reiser and Nancy Ellen Hamer. He was a graduate of the University of Utah. As a career, Reiser was the manager of the Deseret Book Company in Salt Lake City. Without attending a university to study law, he nevertheless became a member of the Utah State Bar. Reiser was an active participant in community service in Utah. For eight years, Reiser was a member of the University of Utah Board of Regents. He was also a long-time member of the Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts. Reiser was a member of the Utah State Parks and Recreation Commission and from 1938 to 1948, he served as the secretary to the Utah Centennial Committee. Stake President
A stake is an administrative unit composed of multiple congregations in certain denominations of the Latter Day Saint movement. The name "stake" derives from the Book of Isaiah: "enlarge the place of thy tent; stretch forth the curtains of thine habitation; spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes" (Isaiah 54:2). A stake is sometimes referred to as a stake of Zion. History The first Latter Day Saint stake was organized at church headquarters in Kirtland, Ohio, on February 17, 1834, with Joseph Smith as its president. The ''Improvement Era'' (often shortened to ''The Era'') was an official magazine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) between 1897 and 1970. History The ''Improvement Era'' was first published in 1897 as a replacement to the unofficial magazine, '' The Contributor''. Over the years, it was the official publishing organ for a variety of organizations within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including the Seventies, the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association, the Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Association, priesthood quorums, church schools, the Church Music Committee, and the Home Teaching Committee.
