The A.B. Gary Carswell
Gary Carswell (''Gary Lee Stanley Carswell''; 29 August 1968 – 11 April 2015) was a Manx solo-motorcycle road racer who worked as a civil engineer. He was a veteran competitor of the Isle of Man TT with 56 starts, and 12 starts in the Manx Grand Prix (long) road-races held on the 37-mile Snaefell mountain course around the island, also competing in the Southern 100 (short) road-races held on the 4-mile Billown Circuit, near Castletown in the south of the Isle of Man. Carswell died in Noble's Hospital, Douglas, Isle of Man, on 11 April 2015, after crashing during a practice session at the Jurby Motodrome, Isle of Man, part of a two-day race weekend organised by the Andreas Racing Club. __TOC__ Racing history Carswell entered the Manx Grand Prix, a race for amateur competitors, between 1991 and 1997. Manx Grand Prix
The Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races are held on the Isle of Man TT Course (or 'Snaefell Mountain Course, Mountain Circuit') every year for a two-week period, usually spanning the end of August and early September. New for 2022 is a period reduction from 14 to 9 days. The MGP or Manx (as it is more commonly known) is considered to be the amateur rider's alternative and a learning experience for the Isle of Man TT races held in May/June. The event differs from the TT in that it does not cater for Sidecar TT, sidecars. A 'Classic TT' race category for historic racing machines was added in 2013 as part of the Manx Government Department of Economic Development's expansion to create what is termed ''Festival of Motorcycling''. The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May/June of most years since its inaugural race in 1907.
