99s Museum Of Women Pilots
The 99s Museum of Women Pilots (MWP) is a non-profit museum and research institute that seeks to preserve the unique history of women in aviation. It is located on the second story of the international headquarters building of the non-profit International Organization of Women Pilots: The Ninety-Nines ("99s") on the grounds of Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The museum houses the largest collection of historical women aviator artifacts in the world. History First known as "The Ninety-Nines", the MWP was established in New York City by 99 women pilots during 1929. Its headquarters moved from New York to Oklahoma City in 1955. In 1972, the museum was formally established as the "Resource Center," that included a library, archives, museum and oral/video history collection. Women have been involved in aviation from the beginnings of both lighter-than air travel and as airplanes, helicopters and space travel were developed. Ninety-Nines
The Ninety-Nines: International Organization of Women Pilots, also known as The 99s, is an international organization that provides networking, mentoring, and flight scholarship opportunities to recreational and professional female pilots. Founded in 1929, the Ninety-Nines has 153 chapters and 27 regional 'sections' across the globe as of 2022, including a 'virtual' chapter, Ambassador 99s, which meets online for those who are too busy or mobile to be in one region for long. Amelia Earhart was elected as their first president in 1931, and the organization has continued to make a significant impact supporting the advancement of women in aviation since its inception. Will Rogers World Airport , Will Rogers Airport or simply Will Rogers, is a passenger airport located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of the city's downtown area. The International Women's Air & Space Museum, Inc. (IWASM) is a museum in Cleveland, Ohio, that preserves the history of women in aviation and space and documents their continuing contributions. The museum began as a committee of the Ninety-Nines, an organization of women pilots, that sought to collect historical artifacts and memorabilia of women pilots. In 1986, the International Women's Air & Space Museum opened in Centerville, Ohio, in the former home of one of the Wright brothers' uncles.
