Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network which provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast or both. Radio stations broadcast with several different types of modulation: AM radio stations transmit in AM ( amplitude modulation), FM radio stations transmit in FM (frequency modulation), which are older analog audio standards, while newer digital radio stations transmit in several digital audio standards: DAB (digital audio broadcasting), HD radio, DRM ( Digital Radio Mondiale). CBCX-FM-1
CBCX-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts Radio-Canada's Ici Musique network at 89.7 FM in Calgary, Alberta. CBCX's studios are located in the Cambrian Wellness Centre, northwest of downtown Calgary, while its transmitter is located at Old Banff Coach Road and 85 Street Southwest in Calgary. The station also has a class A rebroadcaster CBCX-FM-1 in Edmonton at 101.1 MHz, at 3,931 watts. Both of the station's transmitters were licensed in 2002 and launched in early 2003. On January 20, 2012, it was announced that Radio-Canada have plans to close down the AM transmitter of Edmonton's Première Chaîne outlet, CHFA, and swap frequencies between its nested repeater in Edmonton, CHFA-10-FM (101.1), and the much-stronger CBCX-FM-1 (90.1). CFLR-FM
CFLR-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 90.1 MHz ( FM) in La Romaine, Quebec. The station broadcasts a community radio format with programming in both French and Innu. The station received CRTC approval in 1992. CFLR was also the informal call sign of CKLU in Sudbury, Ontario when it broadcast only on cable FM. When that station became officially licensed as an FM radio station in 1996, it adopted its current call sign since the CFLR call sign was already in use in La Romaine. CBV-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts the programming of Radio-Canada's Première network in Quebec City. The station broadcasts at 106.3 FM from Mount Bélair. The station was first launched in 1934 as AM 950 CRCK, Quebec City's second-oldest radio station. It was an affiliate of the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission, airing programming in both English and French. It became a part of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1936. It adopted the callsign CBV in 1938, becoming the second station in Radio-Canada's French radio network. In 1941, CBV moved to 980 kHz. CBUA-FM
CFWH-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 94.5 FM in Whitehorse, Yukon. The station broadcasts the programming of the CBC Radio One network known as CBC North. Until its closure in 2012, CFWH's sister television station was CFWH-TV. History CFWH was launched in 1951 as a local community station on 1340 kHz. On November 10, 1958 it was taken over by the CBC as the first station of the newly formed CBC Northern Radio Service. CFWH received CBC news and topical programs by picking up CBX Edmonton and relaying the broadcast. Tapes recorded in Montreal, Quebec were also flown in on regular airline flights. Eventually the station was linked into the primary CBC network feed. In 1960, the frequency was changed to 1240 and then to 570 in 1964. On May 21, 2009, the CBC applied to the CRTC to convert CFWH to 94.5 MHz. The station received approval on October 27, 2009. CBTL-FM
CBT-FM is a public radio station in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and broadcasting the CBC Radio One news and information network. An AM station for many decades, in 2022, CBT transitioned to FM broadcasting on 93.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 100,000 watts from a transmitter near the town of Northern Arm. Four FM re-broadcasters provide additional coverage. History CBT launched in 1949 on 1350 kHz after the Broadcasting Corporation of Newfoundland, the pre-Confederation public broadcaster, was absorbed by the CBC when Newfoundland joined Canada. The frequency was changed to 990 kHz in 1956, and then to 540 kHz in 1963 (with 990 being reassigned to CBY in Corner Brook). On 540 kHz, CBT transmitted with 10,000 watts using a non-directional antenna.
