9th Parliament Of Singapore
The 9th Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. Its first session commenced on 26 May 1997 and was prorogued on 8 September 1999. It commenced its second session on 4 October 1999 and was dissolved on 18 October 2001. The members of the 9th Parliament were elected in the 1997 general election. Parliament was controlled by a People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and his cabinet. Tan Soo Khoon
Tan Soo Khoon ( zh, c=陈树群, p=Chén Shùqún; born 1 September 1949) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 1989 and 2001. Education Tan attended the Anglo-Chinese School before graduating from the University of Singapore (now the National University of Singapore) in 1971 with an honours degree in business administration. He also served as the general secretary of the students' union of the University of Singapore (now the National University of Singapore) in 1969. Political career Tan started assisting in the Kuo Chuan constituency in 1971, where he learned about the needs of the working-class in Singapore society. Tang Guan Seng
Tang Guan Seng () is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was a Member of the Parliament representing Khe Bong Single Member Constituency (SMC) from 1984 to 1988, Hougang SMC from 1988 to 1991 and Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 1997 to 2001. Political career At the 1984 Singaporean general election, Tang contested Khe Bong SMC and won the election over Sim Say Chuan of the Barisan Sosialis with 62.53% of the vote. At the 1988 Singaporean general election, Khe Boon SMC was absorbed in to Toa Payoh GRC and Tang contested the newly created Hougang SMC. Adrian Tan Cheng Bock ( zh, s=陈清木, p=Chén Qīngmù; born 26 April 1940) is a Singaporean politician and medical practitioner. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayer Rajah SMC between 1980 and 2001. He served as Secretary-General of Progress Singapore Party (PSP) between 2019 to 2021 and served as Progress Singapore Party (PSP) Chairman since 2021.
