Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). CFMZ-FM (''The New Classical 96.3 FM'') is an FM radio station licensed to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Broadcasting on 96.3 MHz, the station is owned by ZoomerMedia and airs a classical music radio format. CFMZ's studios are located on Jefferson Avenue in Liberty Village, while its transmitter is located atop First Canadian Place in downtown Toronto. CFMZ-FM, along with its sister stations, CFMX-FM in Cobourg and CFMO-FM in Collingwood, are among only five commercial broadcasters in Canada with a purely classical music format. CFMZ-FM and its sister stations are the only one that broadcasts in English. CJPX-FM Montreal and CJSQ-FM Quebec City broadcast in French. CFMV-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Chandler, Quebec. Owned and operated by Radio du Golfe, it broadcasts on 96.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 5,700 watts and a peak effective radiated power of 22,900 watts ( class B). The station has an adult contemporary music format. The station was licensed in 2004 on the frequency 92.1 MHz, then later moved to its current frequency. The station shares its website with co-owned CJMC-FM in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. On October 2, 2009, CFMV applied to add a low-power transmitter on 104.1 MHz at Percé, Quebec. This application was denied on February 4, 2010, on the grounds that the station would not meet conditions in regards to programming. CFMK-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 96.3 FM in Kingston, Ontario owned by Corus Entertainment. The station airs a classic hits format, leaning toward classic rock, and branded as ''96.3 Big FM''. History The station was launched on May 14, 1947 as CKWR-FM, an FM simulcast of CKWS. Both stations were owned by Allied Broadcasting, in which the ''Kingston Whig-Standard'' was the primary partner. The station's call sign was changed to CKWS-FM in October of the same year, and Allied changed its name to Frontenac Broadcasting in 1954. The station adopted its current call sign in 1976. In 1977, Paul Desmarais and Claude Pratte purchased Frontenac Broadcasting. CBR is a Canadian clear-channel radio station, broadcasting at 1010 kHz in Calgary, Alberta. It broadcasts the programming of the CBC Radio One network. CBR's studios are located in the Parkdale neighbourhood of northwest Calgary, while its transmitters are located in southeast Calgary. CBR's daytime signal covers most of the southern two-thirds of Alberta. CBY is a clear-channel public radio station in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and it carries the CBC's Radio One network. The transmitter is off the Trans-Canada Highway near Massey Drive in Corner Brook. CBY is a Class A station, transmitting with 10,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna. CBDQ-FM is a radio station broadcasting at 96.3 MHz from Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and is the local Radio One station of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. CBDQ has no rebroadcasters. History CBDQ began as a CBC Low Power Relay Transmitter (LPRT) on the AM band rebroadcasting CFGB Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
