The 95th Infantry Division (95. Infanterie-Division) was a formation of the Imperial German Army in World War I. History The division was first formed on 1 July 1917 at the Eastern Front, where they fought until the finalisation of the Peace Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Following the peace treaty and the end of World War I, they continued to function as an occupying force in Ukraine. The final units of the troop returned therefrom to their homes on 16 May 1919 and were subsequently demobilised and finally disbanded. The 95th Infantry Division (german: 95. Infanterie-Division) was a German division in World War II. It was formed on 19 September 1939 in Wildflecken and Hammelburg. The division was destroyed in June 1944 near Vitebsk. On 10 September 1944, a newly formed 95th Division was placed under command of the defeated army group Mitte in East Prussia. In the winter of 1944 she fought at Tauroggen and the Memel, until she surrendered in April 1945 at Pillau and the Hel Peninsula. 95th Rifle Division
The 95th Rifle Division (Russian: 95-я стрелковая дивизия 95-y strelkovaya diviziya) was a Red Army Rifle Division during World War II, formed three times. The division was first formed in November 1923 with the 6th Rifle Corps. It fought in the Winter War and the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina. After Operation Barbarossa, the division fought in the retreat from Moldova and fought in the siege of Odessa and the siege of Sevastopol. It was destroyed during the siege of Sevastopol and was disbanded in late July 1942. The division was reformed in August 1942 from the 13th Motor Rifle Division NKVD and fought at the Battle of Stalingrad. For its actions during the battle, the division became the 75th Guards Rifle Division in March 1943. In April 1943, the division was formed a third time at Kaluga from the 121st Rifle Brigade. 95th Infantry Division (United States)
The 95th Infantry Division was an infantry division of the United States Army. Today it exists as the 95th Training Division, a component of the United States Army Reserve headquartered at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Activated too late to deploy for World War I, the division remained in the Army's reserve until World War II, when it was sent to Europe. Renowned for fighting back fierce German counterattacks, the division earned the nickname "Iron Men of Metz" for fighting to liberate and defend the town. In April 1945, the 95th Infantry Division (United States) "Victory" division uncovered a German prison and civilian labor camp in the town of Werl. On April 7, the unit reported discovering a camp housing some 4,500 undernourished French officers and 800 enlisted men. The 95th provided the prisoners with emergency rations from the division's own supplies.
