Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. To receive the content the listener must have a broadcast radio receiver (''radio''). Stations are often affiliated with a radio network which provides content in a common radio format, either in broadcast syndication or simulcast or both. CFCY-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 95.1 FM in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with a country format branded on-air as ''95.1 CFCY''. The station is owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. History The station was first launched by radio pioneer Keith Rogers on August 15, 1924 as 10AS on 250 meters. In 1925, the station was granted a full license as CFCY, broadcasting at 960 AM. It is among the oldest radio stations in Canada. In 1931, it moved to 580 AM, and then to its final AM frequency at 630 in 1933. Originally known as "The Friendly Voice of the Maritimes", the location in the centre of the Gulf of St. Lawrence allowed CFCY's 5,000-watt daytime signal to reach portions of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and New England as well as most of the Maritime provinces. CKMV-FM
CJEM-FM is a Canadian radio station in Edmundston, New Brunswick, broadcasting on 92.7 FM with a power of 40,750 watts. The station plays an adult contemporary format. CJEM also has a repeat transmitter, CKMV, located in Grand Falls broadcasting at 95.1 MHz. The station is owned by Radio Edmundston Inc. and first went on the air in December 1944, thus becoming the first French speaking radio station in Canada outside of the province of Quebec. CKHJ is a radio station in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, broadcasting at 1260 AM. The station broadcasts a country format under the '' Pure Country'' branding.
