The 90th Perthshire Light Infantry was a Scottish light infantry regiment of the British Army, raised in 1794. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 26th (Cameronian) Regiment of Foot to form the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in 1881. History Formation The regiment was raised in Scotland by Thomas Graham, 1st Baron Lynedoch, Thomas Graham as the 90th Regiment of Foot, in response to the threat posed by the French Revolution, on 10 February 1794. Graham was given permission to uniform and drill his regiment as a light infantry battalion. Formation 90 Armoured Regiment was raised on 15 August 1979 by amalgamating three independent reconnaissance squadrons of the Indian Army Armoured Corps, the 90 Independent Reconnaissance Squadron of the Poona Horse regiment, 92 Independent Reconnaissance Squadron of 18th Cavalry regiment and 93 Independent Reconnaissance Squadron of the 65 Armoured Regiment. Though raised before a number of other armoured regiments, it took the number “90” from the senior-most among the reconnaissance squadrons that amalgamated to form this regiment. The 90th Infantry Regiment was a Regular Army infantry regiment of the United States Army, which existed during World War I and World War II. The regiment was organized in 1918 during World War I with the 20th Division, but the war ended before it could be deployed overseas; it was demobilized in spring 1919. During World War II, the 90th Infantry was again activated with the 10th Light Division (the future 10th Mountain) in mid-1943, but was transferred to become a nondivisional separate training unit in early 1944, inactivating in mid-1945. The 90th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service The 90th Illinois Infantry was organized at Chicago, Illinois and mustered into Federal service on September 7, 1862. Nicknamed the "Irish Legion" or the "Second Irish". On two occasions, the unit included a disguised woman ( Frances Elizabeth Quinn) in its ranks. The first time she was discovered and dismissed within a month by Colonel Tomothy O'Meara. She rejoined under a different name, and a new commander, a year later. She was successful until captured and discovered by confederate soldiers. The regiment was mustered out on June 10, 1865. The 90th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was a volunteer infantry regiment which served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. They wore chasseur-style uniforms, which each consisted of a dark blue habit veste with white trim, baggy sky-blue trousers and a dark blue kepi. The buttons on the habit veste were unique to the 90th Pennsylvania. They were the only Union regiment in the entire war to have a specific button design.
