8th Street East (Saskatoon)
8th Street East is an arterial road serving the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It begins as a continuation of a minor residential street (8th Street West) at Lorne Avenue in Saskatoon, and runs through the eastern part of city, eventually exiting the city limits as a country road. Route description 8th Street East begins at the Lorne Avenue/8th Street West, which provides access to northbound and from southbound Idylwyld Drive. It passes through the residential neighbourhood of Nutana as a treelined four lane street with a boulevard, intersecting Broadway Avenue and forming the southern boundary of the Broadway Business Improvement District. East of Clarence Avenue it becomes one of the city's main suburban commercial districts with many shops and businesses located along the roadway, including a major regional shopping centre near Circle Drive, as well as several strip malls. Diamond Interchange
A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion. The Saskatoon Freeway (formerly the Saskatoon Perimeter Highway) is a proposed four-lane limited access highway in and adjacent to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The route will connect Highway 11 (south) with Highway 7, forming a partial ring road around the city of Saskatoon. When complete, it will serve as a replacement bypass route for the existing Circle Drive. Steve McOrmond is a Canadian poet. He was born in Nova Scotia and grew up on Prince Edward Island. Holmwood SDA, Saskatoon
Holmwood Suburban Development Area (SDA) is an area in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada). It is a part of the east side community of Saskatoon. It lies at the far east end of the city boundaries with the Rural Municipality of Corman Park No. 344. The area was annexed by the city on August 1, 2010 and the SDA development plan was approved on April 16, 2012. Land preparation worked started in 2012. Prior to development into a SDA the area was predominantly agricultural land and also housed the Sundown Drive-in that operated off Highway 5 (a.k.a. College Drive) from 1963. The origin of the Holmwood name is unknown, but it is taken from Christopher J. Yorath's 1913 planning map, which showed potential locations for many communities; Yorath's proposed Holmwood was placed on the map roughly where the Holmwood SDA is situated now. Split Intersection
A split intersection is a rarely built at-grade variant of the diamond interchange. Compared to a conventional four-leg intersection or road crossing, the arterial road is split into separate carriageways by , allowing a queue of left turning vehicles behind a completed turn into the crossroad without any conflict to oncoming traffic. On the crossroad, the four leg intersection is being replaced by two intersections. The beginning one-way traffic at the fourth leg makes the intersections reduce the number of conflicts similar to a three leg T-intersection to improve traffic flow. Patience Lake
Patience Lake is a lake in central Saskatchewan, Canada east of Saskatoon. The lake is located in the rural municipality of Blucher No. 343. The lake serves as a groundwater discharge region for higher elevations to the east and west. At the south end of the lake, the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan operates a solution mine that produces 331,000 tonne of potash annually and has an approximately 50 ha region of the lake sectioned off with an earth dyke that is used to store brine tailings and saturated KCl solution. The potash mine was originally established as an underground mine, but due to flooding in 1988 it was converted to a solution mine.
