8th Irish Film And Television Awards
The 8th Irish Film & Television Awards were held on 12 February 2011 in the Convention Centre, Dublin. It was hosted by actor Simon Delaney and honoured Irish film and television released in 2010. The Awards show was broadcast live on RTÉ One television in Ireland. Irish producer Morgan O'Sullivan was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award. The Bosnian war drama As If I Am Not There won the best film, script and director awards. Martin McCann scooped the lead actor award for his performance in ''Swansong – Story of Occi Byrne'' while Amy Huberman received the lead actress award for ''Rewind''. Convention Centre Dublin
The Convention Centre Dublin () is a convention centre in the Dublin Docklands, Ireland. The Convention centre overlooks the River Liffey at Spencer Dock. It was designed by the Irish-born American architect Kevin Roche. Construction started in 1998 and the building opened in 2010. From June 2020 it acted as a temporary location for Dáil Éireann due to the necessity to implement social distancing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stephen Rea
Stephen Rea ( ; born 31 October 1946) is an Irish film and stage actor. Rea has appeared in films such as ''V for Vendetta'', ''Michael Collins'', ''Interview with the Vampire'' and ''Breakfast on Pluto''. Rea was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for Neil Jordan's thriller ''The Crying Game'' (1992). Juanita Wilson
Juanita Wilson is an Irish director and writer from Dublin. Her short film ''The Door'' received an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) in 2009 and an Academy Award nomination in 2010. ''Perrier's Bounty'' is a 2009 Irish black comedy crime film set in modern-day Dublin. ''Operation Transformation'' is a health and fitness programme airing on RTÉ One in Ireland. The show is a cross-media event broadcast via radio, web and television on RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ.ie and RTÉ One (dubbed the three-sixty by Gerry Ryan) since 2008. Gerard Ryan (4 June 1956 – 30 April 2010) was an Irish presenter of radio and television employed by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). He presented ''The Gerry Ryan Show'' on radio station RTÉ 2fm each weekday morning from 1988 until hours before his sudden death. He was presented with a Jacob's Award for this show in 1990. The Rubberbandits
The Rubberbandits are an Irish comedy hip-hop duo from Limerick city. They consist of Blindboy Boatclub (real name Dave Chambers) and Mr Chrome (sometimes Bobby Chrome; real name Bob McGlynn). During performances and interviews, they conceal their identities with masks made from plastic shopping bags. They are often accompanied by DJ Willie O'DJ, a silent masked caricature of local politician Willie O'Dea (portrayed by several consecutive men, including Spin South West DJ Paul Webb). The group describe themselves as artists, and have dubbed their movement as "Gas Cuntism". Chambers and McGlynn met while attending Ardscoil Rís, Limerick. ''Republic of Telly'' is a TV review and magazine programme on Irish public broadcaster, RTÉ Two. Presented by comedian Kevin McGahern, the programme is intended as a satirical examination of television, mocking various Irish and British TV channels, including sketches and special guests making an appearance from the shows.
