89th Operations Group
The 89th Operations Group (89 OG) is the operational flying component of the United States Air Force 89th Airlift Wing. It is stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. The 89 OG provides Special Air Mission (SAM) transport to high U.S. government officials and foreign dignitaries as needed. The group provided SAM transport to the President of the United States until 20 February 2001 when that mission was delegated to the Presidential Airlift Group. Its World War II predecessor unit, the 89th Troop Carrier Group was a First Air Force training unit providing transition training for pilots, 1942–1944, then briefly became a replacement training unit (RTU) during 1944 when it was inactivated. 53d Troop Carrier Wing (World War II)
The 53d Fighter Wing (53 FW) is a disbanded unit of the United States Air Force, last stationed at Philadelphia International Airport, Pennsylvania. It was withdrawn from the Pennsylvania Air National Guard (PA ANG) and inactivated on 31 October 1950. The wing was first formed as the 53d Troop Carrier Wing during World War II for command of glider and troop carrier units and its components were heavily involved in airborne operations in North-West Europe from the Normandy Landings to the crossing of the River Rhine. Harding Army Air Field
Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport , also known as Ryan Field, is a public use airport located four miles (7 km) north of the central business district of Baton Rouge, a city in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. The airport was originally Harding Field during World War II and was used by the United States Army Air Forces Technical Service Command as a maintenance and supply base. Its uses also included training pilots to fly P-47 Thunderbolts. One of the Thunderbolt pilots trained at Harding was Quentin Aanenson, who survived the war, and in 2007 appeared in Ken Burns' '' The War'', a PBS film about World War II. Daniel Field is a public use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) west of the central business district of Augusta, a city in Richmond County, Georgia, United States. The 457th Airlift Squadron (457 AS) was part of the 375th Air Mobility Wing and was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. It operated C-21 aircraft providing executive airlift. History Established in mid-1942 under II Bomber Command as a B-17 Flying Fortress Replacement Training Unit (RTU). Operated until March 1944 with the end of Heavy Bomber training. The 1st Helicopter Squadron is a United States Air Force unit based at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland reporting to the 316th Operations Group, administratively controlled by Air Force District of Washington.
