The 8th Grey Cup was played on December 4, 1920, before 10,088 fans at Varsity Stadium at Toronto. Varsity Stadium is an outdoor collegiate stadium located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the "Varsity Centre & Arena", a sports complex at the University of Toronto's St. George Campus. Athletic events have been hosted on the site since 1898; the current stadium was built in 2007 to replace the original permanent stadium built in 1911. The Toronto Varsity Blues are the intercollegiate sports program at the University of Toronto. Its 43 athletic teams regularly participate in competitions held by Ontario University Athletics and U Sports. Mike Rodden
Michael James Rodden (April 24, 1891 – January 11, 1978) was a Canadian sports journalist, National Hockey League referee, and Canadian football coach, and was the first person elected to both the Hockey Hall of Fame (1962) and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1964). He was an older brother of ice hockey player Eddie Rodden. Biography Born in Mattawa, Ontario, Rodden officiated in 1,187 National Hockey League games. As a football coach, he led the Hamilton Tigers to Grey Cup championships in 1928 and 1929. The Mike Rodden Arena and Community Centre in Mattawa is named in his honour. Rodden's primary occupation was sports journalist. He started working at the ''Toronto Globe'' (now ''The Globe and Mail'') as a reporter in 1918, rising to sports editor ten years later. The Grey Cup () is both the championship game of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the trophy awarded to the victorious team playing in the namesake championship of professional Canadian football. The game is contested between the winners of the CFL's East Division (CFL), East and West Division (CFL), West divisional playoffs and is one of Canadian television's largest annual sporting events. Since 2022, the game was held on the third Sunday of November. The Toronto Varsity Blues football team represents the University of Toronto in the sport of Canadian football in U Sports. Dating back to 1877, the Toronto Varsity Blues football program initially competed for the Canadian Dominion Football Championship and won six national titles, including the first Grey Cup game ever held in 1st Grey Cup, 1909, as well as winning in 1895 Dominion Championship, 1895, 1905 Dominion Championship, 1905, 2nd Grey Cup, 1910, 3rd Grey Cup, 1911, and 8th Grey Cup, 1920. After intercollegiate teams no longer competed for the Dominion Championship, the team won the first Vanier Cup ever held in 1st Vanier Cup, 1965, and then again in 29th Vanier Cup, 1993 as Canadian national football champions.
