8th Goa Assembly
The Eighth Goa Assembly (term : 2022-present) is the unicameral legislature of the state of Goa in western India. It consists of 40 members. It is in-charge of the budget, the Assembly appropriates money for social programs, agricultural development, infrastructure development, etc. It is also responsible for proposing and levying taxes. Goa Legislative Assembly
The Goa Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the state of Goa in India. The Assembly meets at the Goa State Legislative Assembly Complex in Porvorim, Bardez. History Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Lieutenant General Kunhiraman Palat Candeth as Lieutenant-Governor. First-past-the-post Voting
In a first-past-the-post electoral system (FPTP or FPP), formally called single-member plurality voting (SMP) when used in single-member districts or informally choose-one voting in contrast to ranked voting, or score voting, voters cast their vote for a candidate of their choice, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins even if the top candidate gets less than 50%, which can happen when there are more than two popular candidates. As a winner-take-all method, FPTP often produces disproportional results (when electing members of an assembly, such as a parliament) in the sense that political parties do not get representation according to their share of the popular vote. This usually favours the largest party and parties with strong regional support to the detriment of smaller parties without a geographically concentrated base. Delilah Michael Lobo (born 23 April 1977) is an Indian politician and businesswoman who currently serves as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, representing the Siolim Assembly constituency. Lobo won the Siolim constituency on the Indian National Congress ticket in the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly election. She defeated four-time MLA Dayanand Mandrekar of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 1,727 votes. Michael Vincent Lobo (born 18 June 1976), is an Indian businessperson and politician from Goa. He is a former member of the Indian National Congress and MLA of Goa Legislative Assembly from Calangute. He is also the former Leader of Opposition of Indian National Congress in Goa Legislative Assembly. He supported the opening of India's first Playboy club in Candolim. Lobo resigned as Member of Legislative Assembly for Calangute under Bhartiya Janta Party. He then joined Indian National Congress and was made a candidate for the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly election for Calangute. He then defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party after the elections, causing public outrage and being termed a "traitor". Operation Kamala, Operation Lotus or sometimes Operation Black Lotus is a term coined in 2008, when India's former minister G. Janardhana Reddy in the State of Karnataka, used all possible tricks (persuade, bribe, punishment, divide) to secure support from legislators bypassing the anti-defection law, so as to take the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) past the majority number.
