8G Band
The 8G Band is the house band for ''Late Night with Seth Meyers''. The band is led by ''Saturday Night Live'' alumnus Fred Armisen. He assembled the 8G Band, named for the studio where the show is taped, just two weeks before the test show. He texted friends Seth Jabour, Syd Butler, and Eli Janney ("What are you guys doing this week?"), then found first drummer Kimberly Thompson through an audition. Jabour and Butler are members of the Brooklyn rock and roll band Les Savy Fav, and Butler also owns Frenchkiss Records. Guitarist Marnie Stern later joined as well. Fereydun Robert Armisen (born December 4, 1966) is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and musician. With his comedy partner Carrie Brownstein, Armisen was the co-creator and co-star of the IFC sketch comedy series ''Portlandia''. Eli Janney is an American record producer and engineer born in Washington, D.C. Janney played bass and keyboards as well as sang backing vocals in indie rock/post-hardcore band Girls Against Boys. He currently plays keyboard in and is associate music director of the 8G band on the ''Late Night with Seth Meyers'' show on NBC. Les Savy Fav ( ) is an American indie rock band based in New York City. Their style is influenced by art punk and post-hardcore. The group is known for the stage presence of lead singer Tim Harrington. The band is signed to Frenchkiss Records, which is owned by the band's bassist, Syd Butler. History The group's original 1995 line-up all met while attending the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. Frenchkiss Records is an independent record label based in New York City. The label was started in 1999 by Syd Butler, bassist and founder of Les Savy Fav. Marnie Stern (born March 18, 1976) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and guitarist. She has garnered acclaim for her technical skill and tapping style of guitar play.
