89th Minnesota Legislature
The Eighty-ninth Minnesota Legislature was the legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota from January 6, 2015, to January 2, 2017. It was composed of the Minnesota Senate, Senate and the Minnesota House of Representatives, House of Representatives, based on the results of the Minnesota Senate election, 2012, 2012 Senate election and the Minnesota House of Representatives election, 2014, 2014 House election. The seats were Apportionment (politics), apportioned based on the 2010 United States census. It first convened in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Saint Paul on January 6, 2015, and last met on May 23, 2016. It held its regular session from January 6 to May 18, 2015, and from March 8 to May 23, 2016. A special session to complete unfinished business was held from June 12 to 13, 2015. Minnesota State Capitol
The Minnesota State Capitol is the seat of government for the U.S. state of Minnesota, in its capital city of Saint Paul. It houses the Minnesota Senate, Minnesota House of Representatives, the office of the Attorney General and the office of the Governor. The building also includes a chamber for the Minnesota Supreme Court, although court activities usually take place in the neighboring Minnesota Judicial Center. There have been three State Capitol buildings. The present building was designed by architect Cass Gilbert and completed in 1905. Its Beaux-Arts/American Renaissance design was influenced by the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, and by McKim, Mead & White's Rhode Island State House. From 2013 to 2017 the building underwent an extensive restoration.
