7 Kenya Rifles
7 Kenya Rifles is an infantry battalion of the Kenya Army. It came into being on June 8, 1968, at Gilgil in a British army camp which had been abandoned since 1964. The first commanding officer of the unit Was Lt Col Wambua. The unit relocated to its current base at Langata in 1973. The Maroon Commandos is a military band belonging to the battalion. Overview The battalion between 2003-2004 saw extensive support from the United States through training 250-450 of its personnel. The training involved field intelligence, command and control and basic maneuver and firepower. The battalion's leadership underwent the program first before transitioning as trainers to the rest of the battalion. The training cycles lasted approximately four weeks and further support in terms of equipment worth $3.8 million was provided to the battalion. Light infantry refers to certain types of lightly equipped infantry throughout history. They have a more mobile or fluid function than other types of infantry, such as heavy infantry or line infantry. Historically, light infantry often fought as Reconnaissance, scouts, Raid (military), raiders, and skirmisher, skirmishers. Langata
Lang'ata is a predominantly middle-class residential suburb of Nairobi in Kenya. The suburb consists of many smaller housing developments, referred to as estates. The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was a regional peacekeeping mission operated by the African Union with the approval of the United Nations Security Council. Gilgil
Gilgil, Kenya, is a town in Nakuru County, Kenya. The town is located between Naivasha and Nakuru and along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway. It is to the west of the Gilgil River, which flows south to feed Lake Naivasha. Gilgil has a population of 18,805 according to the 1999 census.
