747 Uppingham–Leicester
The 747 is a bus service which operates between Uppingham and Leicester, largely following the A47 road. History The bus formerly ran between Leicester and Peterborough, operated by Midland Fox. The Uppingham-Peterborough section was withdrawn and replaced by the less frequent R47 service. In January 2017, Centrebus announced that the route was no longer commercially viable. However, following a campaign and a petition signed by over 1,000 people, the route continued operating after a £60,000 subsidy from two local councils that covered the cost of the route until January 2018. Uppingham
Uppingham is a market town in Rutland, England, off the A47 between Leicester and Peterborough, south of the county town, Oakham. It had a population of 4,745 according to the 2011 census, estimated at 4,853 in 2019. It is known for its eponymous public school. With its art galleries Uppingham has become a popular destination for art lovers. Billesdon is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England, with a population of 745 according to the 2001 census, increasing to 901 at the 2011 census. It is just off the A47, nine miles east of Leicester. The Billesdon bypass opened in October 1986. Nearby places include Houghton on the Hill, Skeffington, Tilton on the Hill, and Gaulby. A47 (road)
The A47 is a major road in England linking Birmingham to Lowestoft, Suffolk. Most of the section between Birmingham and Nuneaton is now classified as the B4114. From Peterborough eastwards, it is a trunk road (sections west of the A1 road have been downgraded as alternative roads have been built).
